THREE fire engines and police officers were mobilised to what turned out a false alarm at a Carlton property.

Fire services were called to reports of a house fire in Standhill Road with people trapped inside the house at around 6pm today.

Fire services requested police and ambulance attend - as part of their standard response.

But when crews got there, it turned out heavy smoke was caused by burnt food - not a fire.

A spokeswoman for Notts Fire and Rescue Services said the ambulance could still be stopped, as it had not got there yet.

The spokeswoman said the man and woman in the house were "probably just panicking".
