Extra kennels to house city strays
MORE stray dogs wandering Nottingham's streets can be kept safe now that two new kennels have been provided at city police stations.
The kennels have been bought and built by Nottingham City Council dog wardens and Notts police and will hold seven dogs.
This more than doubles the previous kennel space at Central police station, in Shakespeare Street, Oxclose Lane, in Bestwood and Radford Road, Basford.
It also eases the pressure on kennels at Babbington Hall, where Nottingham stray dogs are rehoused. It is full to capacity, with more than 60 animals.
Now police and dog wardens are appealing for old towels and small blankets to make the police kennels warm and comfortable
The three stations take in strays overnight until city council dog wardens can collect them the following day.
The council has three full- time dog wardens patrolling the streets.
Coun Katrina Bull, portfolio holder for environment, said: "Some of the dogs are in quite a poor condition and it is important they are kept warm in the kennels, particularly during this cold weather."
To donate blankets or towels, contact the dog wardens on 0115 915 6123. Anyone interested in offering a home to a stray dog can contact Babbington Hall dog rescue and cattery at 0115 932 4576.
