Expansion of Mansfield school St Peter's C of E to be approved this week
THE expansion of a Mansfield school is set to be given the go ahead by Notts County Council next week.
The council is proposing to increase the number of pupil places at St Peter's CofE Primary by 50 per cent from September this year.
The plan would see its capacity rise from 210 places to 315.
The council's committee for children and young people's services will discuss the proposals on Monday.

Committee chairman, Councillor Philip Owen, said: “Despite opposition from interested parties, we have a statutory duty to increase available school places in the immediate vicinity of St Peter's as some families are having to travel 2.7 miles plus to an alternative school and projections show that the demand for places at the school will exceed supply from September 2014.
“The 2.7-mile distance is higher than the legal walking limit for children in Reception to Year 3. Our proposals have the full backing of school governors and the diocese.”
Decisions on proposals to increase pupil places at three other Notts schools will also be made at next week's meeting.
These are Dalesforth Primary in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Arnold Mill Primary and Holy Trinity Catholic Primary in Newark.
