EVIL ghosts have driven a family from their £3.6m mansion, it has been claimed.

Businessman Anwar Rashid says that they fled Clifton Hall after hearing screams in passageways late at night.

They also say that they saw mysterious figures in bedrooms and blood spots appeared on his baby's clothes.

When he tried and failed to sell the 17-bedroom home in Clifton Village, he stopped paying the mortgage so the Yorkshire Bank were forced to repossess.

It is thought to be the most expensive home in Notts to be repossessed.

Mr Rashid says the home, which he shared with his wife and four young children, his brother and his parents, was plagued by evil spirits.

"We didn't have a choice, we had to move out," he said.

A paranormal investigation team said the hall was the "most active" place they had ever seen.

Team leader Lee Roberts said: "It is the only place where I've ever really been scared, even in the light.

"It's just got a really eerie feeling about it."

Mr Rashid, who owns a chain of nursing homes, added: "I never believed in stuff like this before, but I do now. My family's safety had to come before everything else."

    “So here's the deal:
My grandfather was John Clifton Hall; my dad was Clifton Ayres Hall, Sr.; I'm Clifton Ayres Hall II.
Can I have the family mansion back now, please?
    I'll deal with the ghosts...
I've got a big dog with flatulence.”

“People who believe in ghosts - Nutcases! Thats what i used to call them - till i worked there! people tend not to talk about these things ( like u.f.o sightings) for fear of being branded - i'm not afraid. i like many other people have seen & heard things there which can't logically be explained.Although the theory of the bad smell (nice dog) has now been solved.
Maybe ghosts are tricks played by our minds - Maybe there not but we know what we've seen & heard there.
Maybe Mr Rashid should of put some cameras in the hall - Sell the tapes - Worth Millions - Mortgage paid - No problem!”

“What a load of piffle the tales about Clifton hall are, I was employed by the Nottingham Trent university as a
security officer for 13 years from 1981 to1994,

My duties during my time there involved regular night patrols of the City and the Clifton sites including
    Clifton hall and it's grounds.

I must admit that patrols of Clifton hall during the hours of darkness could be quite unerving but at
no time did I, or as far as I am aware my fellow security officers who always patrolled in pairs, witness any
    paranormal activity.

Silence, shadows, and the dark can play strange tricks if one lets the mind wander.

When my turn on the rota called for me to do night duties at Clifton hall I would
take my dog along with me. ( A Staffordshire bull terrier aptly named Casper.) Casper was renowned for
breaking wind, much to the disgust of my work colleagues. Whenever we had a break during the night for a
cup of tea and a bite to eat there would be Casper with his flatulence,
But I must say the lads thought the world of him, God rest his soul.

Perhaps this would explain some of the strange smells that linger in the hall.

“I can't stop asking myself one question, If Clifton Hall is possessed, why does it
    have to be repossessed?”

“This is all about a failed business venture and sour grapes on the part of Mr Rashid.

Planning permission to hire out the hall and gardens for weddings and events was refused by the council. The housing slump caused the property to drop drastically in value. With no revenue on the £3.6 million investment Mr. Rashid defaulted on the mortgage. The bank repossessed Clifton Hall, and now Mr Rashid is attempting to obscure his financial losses (and devalue the bank's property) with fireside tales of superstition.”
