England international joins Nottingham
ENGLAND international Sam Vesty will make his debut for Nottingham Rugby when they play Moseley at Meadow Lane on Sunday (3pm).
The Green and Whites are looking to end a run of four consecutive defeats in the Championship when they entertain last season's Cup winners.
Vesty, the 28-year-old Leicester fly-half, helped Tigers to victory last season in the Guinness Premiership final against London Irish at Twickenham and also played in the semi-final defeat against Leinster in the Heineken Cup showpiece.
Vesty was then rewarded for his good end-of-season form with a call-up to the full England squad for the summer tour against Argentina and he made his debut off the bench against the South Americans at Old Trafford last June.
The Green and Whites director of rugby, Glenn Delaney, said: "Sam is on loan to us because he has literally only just come back to fitness.
"He played in a Tigers' A-team game on Monday night and, as there is no more A-team rugby now until well into January, he will be with us.
"Leicester are quite keen to get him back and fit as soon as possible and obviously we've had issues with our other former England international Ben Johnston not being fit.
"We want to look after Ben as well as we can and the timing with Sam is just right for us.
"When you have a guy playing for you who started the Heineken Cup final last year and then played for England, it is a massive boost.
"He is a really good bloke and will fit in well with the rest of our squad. He knows Tim Taylor well and we expect that he will really enjoy it and contribute to what we do."
Vesty can play full back, fly-half or centre and is a very determined tackler which he credits to his dad, Phil, who also played for Leicester.
He said: The pride in my defensive game goes back to my dad. He drilled it into me that if I let someone run through me I'd be letting the team down, and that in rugby, no one likes players who don't tackle.
"I see myself primarily as a No.10, and traditionally No.10s were seen as weak defenders.
"People like Jonny Wilkinson changed that perception by making their tackles. If you do that, they have to stop running at you and think of something else.
"I know that if I hold my game together, opponents will struggle to find ways of attacking us."
Vesty has had a bit of a stop-start season with the Welford Road outfit.
He did not play much in the early part of the 2008/09 season and had even considered leaving Leicester to get game time.
But circumstances changed in February 2009. Toby Flood was away with the England squad and Derick Hougaard was injured, so he was brought back to play at fly-half.
Billy Twelvetrees will play at centre alongside Vesty in the absence of the injured Greig, Tonks and the out-of-form Charlie Haytor.
Twelvetrees, who played for Leeds Carnegie last season, is a dual registered player with Leicester and Nottingham and played for the Tigers earlier this season.
