EAST Midlands Airport has been named in the top two airports in the UK.

A total of 18,000 HolidayExtras.com customers cast votes in 10 different categories, ranging from best airport hotel, best UK airport, best airport parking and best airline.

East Midlands was runner-up in the best airport category to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

An awards ceremony was hosted by travel writer and TV personality Simon Calder, with Holiday Extras' non-executive chairman, Gerry Pack handing over awards.

He said: "East Midlands Airport has gone the extra mile to give travellers a great airport experience."

Stephen Turner, the airport's commercial director, said: "To have received this level of recognition by customers is a huge achievement."
