ILKESTON Town have made a double swoop for midfielder Chris Davies and defender James Dudgeon.

Davies, 25, can play wide on the right of midfield, in the centre or at right-back and comes in from Frickley Athletic.

He progressed through the ranks at Lincoln City and has also had spells at Hucknall, Belper and Lincoln United.

Dudgeon, 28, began his career at Barnsley and played in the Football League, on loan at Lincoln City.

The centre back has also plied his trade with York, Leigh Genesis, Scarborough, Worksop and Gainsborough Trinity.

"Chris is a player who has interested me in the past because has experience of playing at this level before," said boss Kevin Wilson.

"He's a good footballer at a good age and can play in several positions but I see him as an attacking midfielder or wide player.

"Chris could have gone to other clubs for money but there are still some players who want to come to this club because it is a decent one with a good ground.

"James is big and strong, 6ft 2ins, which you need in this league with the type of football that is often played.

"He's good in his own box but also good from attacking set pieces where he is not frightened to put his head in to score."

The pair takes the Robins' summer signings to four and Wilson is pleased with how his squad is taking shape.

He said: "We are moving in the right direction and there are going to be more signings on the way.

"I have got three more young players where a deal has been agreed and I am also in the process of signing a goalkeeper to put pressure on Chris Adamson.

"It is the same in every position. I want people to be battling for their place."

Former Ilkeston loan player Marc Newsham has joined former Robins bosses Paul Hurst and Rob Scott at Boston following his release from Rotherham.
