BUDGET proposals will be discussed by Gedling Borough councillors tonight.

The cabinet voted through plans, which involved a £422,500 cut in spending, last month. Now, the full council is due to make a final decision on the plans at a meeting in Arnold at 6.45pm.

The authority has previously come under fire for scrapping parish aid, meaning villagers will be likely to pay more towards parish councils.

But council leader Councillor John Clarke has said the budget proposals are part of Labour's pledge to manage finances responsibly.

How do they expect the loaders to live on £6.22 per hour?? You can bet THEY are not on such a Disgracefully low wage!! The Loaders have been underpaid and Overworked for YEARS!! Put the Loaders on the Living Wage NOW!! Its always Jam tomorrow with these people!! Just the same as the Tories!!!”

“Sadly the facts are that GBC is unable to do what bigred 10 and most people, including me, would like to do because of the Con-Dem government's cut in funding (about 700k pounds this year) and their freeze on wage rise in the public sector. They will are committed to becoming a Living Wage Council as soon as they can LEGALLY.”

“The comments by Fizissist are absolutely Ludicrous!! The Poor Refuse Collectors are on £6.22 per Hour!! So Clearly then! GBC have NOT removed the lowest Pay Grades!. Do you Think the Chief Executive is on £6.22 Per hour?? This Pathetic wage is an absolute Disgrace!! The extra money can come from pay to be cut from exorbitant and grossly overinflated salaries of the chief and Deputy Chief Executives! You say the council do not have the money to put the Refuse Loaders on the Living Wage? Then where did the money come from to purchase two brand new refuse vehicles at £100,000 each just two months ago?? and another 3 Vehicles just 3 years ago? Not to mention brand new Bartec Computer systems in each vehicle at 3 grand a pop?? for the entire fleet?? and the totally useless computerised Banksman system in each truck? and you have not got the cash to put the Refuse Loaders on the Living wage?? so Stuff them right??? Put the refuse Loaders on the living wage NOW!! NO MORE EXCUSES!!!”

“GBC has already removed the lowest pay level and moved those who were on it up to the next. The previous Tory administrations had kept pay rates very low,and although this Labour administration are trying to become a LIVING WAGE council, they are unable to do it within the financial limits imposed by this Com-Demnable government. Labour GBC Will continue to a to reach living wage status”
