Otis Orrill was caught supplying cocaine to undercover police officers
But Orill, 34, was spared a prison sentence after a judge admitted he was troubled by aspects of the case.
Orrill, of Bailey Brook, Langley Mill, supplied cocaine to the officer in the Railway pub on March 7, and again at the Wheatsheaf pub on April 11 after exchanging phone numbers with her.
A week later he put her in touch with another man who sold her cocaine.
Dominic Shelley, defending, said Orrill had described the officer as "stunning" and had said: "I thought all my birthdays had come at once."
Orrill said the only reason he exchanged phone numbers was to meet her for a date.
Judge David Pugsley told Orrill: "I was going to send you to prison. But I am troubled.
"I am not criticising this surveillance operation, but I think you are a buffoon who took a course you would not have normally have taken."
Orrill pleaded guilty to two offences of supplying cocaine and another of being concerned in the supply of cocaine.
He was given a 40-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months, and 100 hours unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £647 court costs.

“When you say ' drugs are illegal' Andyman, I realise that there would be no point in attempting to have an intelligent debate with you.
Alcohol is a potent drug, and it isn't illegal...there are many prescription drugs and over the counter drugs which are not illegal.
I realised from your posting that your knowledge is severely limited
Trying to have a reasoned argument with such as yourself is inevitably frustrating...and I certainly don't want to go down the B.J.Mann and F.W. route!
We'll agree to disagree with no hard feelings
I have to take prescription drugs daily for a severe medical condition, do not take illegal drugs or drink alcohol.
As Oscar Wilde said 'The truth is rarel pure and never simple.”

“Couldn't agree more Graham, its wierd how the media didn't report she'd taken E at least 3 times prior to the one that "killed her".”

“@A, Vigilante
Do your research sunshine. Leah Betts didn't die from her first pill, nor did she die from any pill. She died from drowning her system with to much fluids.
Leah Betts was known to her friends as quite the drug monkey, its just unfortunante that lack of education led the girl to believe she needed to keep her system constantly hydrated. The warning signs were there when she complained to her friends of a bad headache, rather than seeking medical advice she continued to drink fliuds and consequently kill herself.
Of course you wouldn't know that what with todays media coverage rendering every drug user an outlaw.”

“So we know nothing do we? what we do know is that drugs ARE ILLEGAL, and alcohol is not illegal. We are all aware of the problems associated with alcohol, its implications, and what it can do in the long term to those consumung too much.
Alcohol is legal, and taxed; this is what pays for services such as the NHS and others, therefore the minority abusing alcohol are actually paying for many of the problems they create. The same cannot be said for illegal drugs, they contrubute nothing financially, and cost us, the tax paying public in many other ways.
How many people become prolific burglars to sustain an alcohol habit costing hundreds of pounds per day? and how many people are mugging people to sustain an alcohol habit?
Consider the vast number of people using alcohol, what percentage are committing crime, a very small, but often well highlighted minority, rthen consider the same for drugs users, this then becomes a very large majority.
As for drugs being illegal for historical reasons, pure unadulterated rubbish! they are illegal for many reasons.”
