NOTTINGHAM Forest must shake up their squad with new signings, Billy Davies warned today.

The Reds boss believes new faces would provide his squad with additional motivation and drive.

Forest were defeated 2-1 in extra-time in the first round of the Carling Cup at Bradford last night, following a game in which they missed a host of chances.

And Davies is convinced that new signings would provide a vital edge to his existing squad.

"We need to shake up the pecking order by bringing players in," he said.

"We need to make players react to new faces. New faces put people on their game; they change the ethos of the whole club.

"We need more quality, we need more quantity and we certainly need more depth to get us through the rest of the season."

"We are one step away from the Premier League, in Championship football, and great quality is required."

Davies was critical of striker Nathan Tyson – but said the whole team was responsible for their failure to win.

"Tyson had a couple of great opportunities on Saturday against Burnley and a couple of great opportunities last night," he said.

"And, without picking on him in particular, he knows he could have single-handedly won both games.

"Speculation can disrupt minds – I don't know whether that is an issue. He is working hard, he is a very good pro.

"But there are other players who had very good opportunities as well.

"Our finishing has a lot to be desired. We have to show more composure in front of goal, we have to show maturity.

"Tys does not mean to miss the target, he is doing his best.

"I cannot fault any of these young players, even Tyson is still a young lad. I do not expect the finished article."

“£1.5 million? forest must be having a laugh! premier league team ( ie Wigan / newcastle) will be monitoring the situation, then at last minute will put a cheeky £2 million bid in, and because we've faffed about so much and upset both clubs ( swansea and cardiff ), we will lose out on both .... ie - victor moses!!! we could of had him if we'd of payed the asking price and ive no doubt if we had got him in january we would of gone up and been £80million richer..... so i hope that £500k the board are tryin to skimp off transfer fees is well worth it!!!!!!”

“Sorry Billy, but that is just ridiculous describing Tyson as a young lad, he's 28 FFS. At what point do you become a seasoned professional if that's the case?
Kingnffc, ever thought of using full stops and sentences? Your posts are very difficult to read!”

“The best striker to have graced our forward line would have been Billy Sharp he was a superb steal by Donny.

I bet he doesent keep missing open goals.”

“I don't get some fans sometimes :/ Their opinions are a joke. It's either

"Buy players, we have to few players"

    or

    "Sell players, they are rubbish"

I wouldn't sell Tyson or Adebola, even if we signed a striker, i'd still keep them. We need them in our squad. Not saying they are great or anything, just suggesting we sell them is mental.

Regards tyson though, i'm not surprised he's not done well, he's a striker who's been played as a winger for 2-3 seasons. He's played out of position for so long he's bound to be a little rusty”

“sell tyson, sell adebola and bring in somebody who can hit the back off the net. it's not fair on earnshaw who has to do the scoring himself every single season. tyson is so rubbish it's unbelievable the chances he waste's every time he plays just cost's us point's. so we need a striker with earnshaw and watch us go :)”
