Davies: Don't write off Forest just yet
BILLY Davies today said that Nottingham Forest's promotion dream has not died, insisting: "Maybe being written off is a great thing, because it might take some pressure off these young players."
The Reds find themselves with an eight-point gap between them and second-placed West Bromwich Albion after suffering their sixth consecutive away defeat, 2-1 at Barnsley.

But, following a much-improved performance, Davies believes there is still hope for his side.
And he insisted that having people write off their hopes could help kick-start a revival.
"It might be the catalyst that gets us going again," he said. "I am telling you, over the next few weeks, things will happen. That eight-point gap could be reduced to five.
"Then it could be reduced to two and then, on the last day of the season, you could sneak over the finishing line.
"I am not saying it will happen, I am saying it could happen. Anything is still possible. If we show the same appetite and desire, anything can happen."
Davies was hugely encouraged by Forest's performance, which almost saw them snatch a point as a last-minute leveller from Robert Earnshaw was ruled out by referee Kevin Friend, after Barnsley keeper Luke Steele fumbled the ball.
"I don't think the dream has died for us just yet. We have nine games to go and plenty of points to be won," he said.
"I have seen this before and, until the very last game has been played, we have to see what happens. Anything is still possible.
"The fans showed at the end of the match what they thought of the performance, they gave us an excellent ovation. That tells you a lot.
"I was delighted with the response. We should have been ahead at half-time and then, I have also seen the video of the incident at the end, when we had the ball in the back of the net and the referee has blown for an infringement."

“it is a disgrace that kevin friend, once again, can go back to his leicester city supporting mates and brag about how he has cost forest dear. remember, this was also the referee who ludicrously sent off sammy clingan at oldham a few years ago and then joked with the forest bench at chelsea about how he had got it wrrong. The Football League should hold an inquiry into this referee and his performances.”

“I admitt losing all these matches is my fault. I can't expect ND to be responsible for the millions of pounds that Forist are in debt and pay me such a fantastic salary for doing nothing, apart from making sure the manager hasn't any money to improve a squad of players that clearly isn't good enough to gain promotion. But don't forgrt I've a wife and children to support and they are far more important to me than Forest.”

“the problem with last night is simple!! ADEBOLA!! all we did was attempt to fire the ball into him and in the air to him. That pretty much cuts ball players like cohen, boyd and majewski out of the game. Aswell as adebola finishing being some of the worst ive ever seen.
thats why we were pretty s**t last night”

“the club haven't pushed and shown ambition our luck will run out and for whatever reason of, balance the books, better chance of promotion from this league, or even a premier club our better players will leave. Fact of Life! Long gone are the days where players stayed loyal to the club. Dawson, Jenas to name but a few..they will move on. Over the years Forest have cashed in on talent rather than add to a team around it. That may not even be down to Forest Boards entirely as the amount of money in football now-a-days is crazy. Our squad is waifer thin now, its there for all to see, so if a few leave, injuries etc next season our current forms put us down the table. No Forest Fan wants a return to league one. We have had a good season. Unfortunatley we don't want to be here in 2 or 3 years time saying we should have gone for it.. More importanly we don't want another platt era where the club faces ruin on and off the field. So BD and the board can't win in our eyes. If they spend money and players turn out to be average then its a waste, if they do so well and promotion was there for our taking, then then failed to show ambition. Either way Id rather be talking about chances of at worst failing in the playoffs that fighting relegation. And all Forest fans should say thanks to ND as he HAS saved our club.”

“Ian, great post and we should remember who funded last summer's spending spree.”

“Richie Norwich, can you point me to the link for the stories where the panel announced Moses, Shorey or Bale as targets?”

“Chris, that's rubbish. One year ago we were 22nd, now we're 3rd. Some fans need to get a perspective of what an acheivment this season has been.”

“Richie, anyone can tell you what positions we need to fill but other clubs are reluctant to let players go and Forest are reluctant to spend "over the odds" in terms of wages and transfer fees to fill a gap. There's no point buying a player to fill a space in the squad, that way you end up needing a striker and buying Neil Shipperley. It's OK spending over the odds if you then go up but look at Derby, 25k a week on Robbie Savage which you can't sustain in the championship and when it's time to renew the contracts of everyone else, they want big wage hikes to match the big money guys.
After all this, people still won't name names of players we could have bought. Other than Fulham, I don't know of any club who bought a left back so it's not like they were available for us to get.
With half the fans moaning about how much we've got to pay ND back and the other half saying we're not spending enough, the board are stuck right in the middle.”

“We always could rely on a good away following but last night even that disappeared. That, coupled with a poor fanbase at home wont make ND dip his hand in his pocket anytime soon. It's promotion or the sack for Davies.”
