Nottingham dad grew cannabis to make cash for Christmas
A DAD has been jailed after growing cannabis to make money for his large family in the run-up to Christmas.
Michael Prescott and his partner have ten children between them and needed cash, Nottingham Crown Court heard.
So he began cultivating his own crop for the first time, setting up equipment in his loft. He arranged for a buyer to give him £2,000 after cultivation.
But before he could seal the deal, police arrived with a search warrant at the property in Broxtowe Lane, Aspley, on December 15.
Whoever was going to buy the cannabis would have got a bargain, as an expert estimated it was actually worth more.
In fact, the 2.59 kilogrammes of flowering heads – the most valuable part – would have made £10,780 if sold by the ounce and £16,000 if sold by the gramme. The police search also turned up another drug – 376 grammes of amphetamine worth more than £3,000 – and three bags of glucose powder, a common mixing agent for drugs.
Lisa Hardy, prosecuting, said: "The defendant was arrested, interviewed and cautioned and admitted the drugs were all his. He said him and his partner had ten children between them, Christmas was fast approaching and he'd done this to make money."
Prescott, 51, has 13 convictions for 46 offences, including burglary, theft, possession of cocaine and being concerned in the supply of heroin.
This time he was sentenced for production of cannabis as well as possession of cannabis and amphetamine with intent to supply.
Judge John Burgess gave him two years and eight months in prison.
He said Prescott should know better than anybody that the courts take a very serious view of people who are involved in the supply of drugs.
"In 2000 you were concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, a large quantity of heroin."
Prescott, who pleaded guilty to all the charges, was said in mitigation to be remorseful.
The investigating officer, PC Paul Henson, said after he was jailed: "We are very encouraged by the sentence handed to Prescott. It should hopefully send a clear message to those who produce and deal in drugs that Notts Police will do its utmost to ensure that they are arrested and to gather all the evidence needed to bring them before the courts."

“But was there any need to write that comment about "how many of the following are true" involving his family, The article is not about them, so why bring them into it. Yes Tara is sticking up for her dad becasue you stand by your family no matter what, dont you know the meaning of the word "family" Ovbiously not! Yes everyone is allowed an opinion but you dont need to start critising other memeber of his family when you dont even know them.”

“Ill spell it out then - I'm saying that the father has shown himself to be a career drug dealer of all classes of drugs that who does not care that he harms the people of Nottingham. By being a drug dealer he makes the addicts commit crimes againt the decent members of the public so they can buy his drugs. Therefore his actions affect everyone in Nottingham and so everyone can comment.
His daughter should not be supporting him nor saying that it is nobody's business. They should be ashamed of him and condeming what he does.
The father's apples do not fall far from his tree clearly.”

“I think you've forgotten what you're supposed to be commenting on, this is about a man who's been sent to jail not about his daughters GCSE's. You're trying to make yourselfs look good by commenting and calling his family but i dont think you realise how sad and pathetic you sound. Its quite clear you dont know him and his family so find something better to do with you're lifes, because you're the ones who look like the scum-bags and low lifes.”

“Dear Tara Jade,
After reading your reply I take it that English wasn't one of your "very good" GCSEs then?!
It was easier reading between the lines of your (poorly answered) reply. Perhaps a course in honesty too?
The University of Lower Broxtowe welcomes your application!!!”

“Tarajade (classy name) - Congratulations to you for getting "very good GCSE's". I see you plan to go to University "next year". Would that be to see a pop group at the Students Union? Sadly Universities don't think much of GCSE's no matter how "good" they are. You also need 3 good A Levels to go to University, as well as c. £25,000 for the tuition fees which, presumably, would necessitate your father doing a bit more gardening in the loft.”
