Crunch time fast approaching in the bid to beat the drop
THE pressure is mounting at the bottom of the Notts Premier League as teams scramble to beat the drop. And with the bottom also all being affiliated to the South Notts Cricket League, it could also mean similar pressure is being felt in the top division of that league as well.
The big relegation match this weekend sees Radcliffe, in tenth, play host to Wollaton, one place below them, in a match that could well decide which one slips through the relegation trapdoor.
A maximum points win for Wollaton – who won the earlier encounter this season by five wickets – would see them move out of the bottom two to be replaced by their opponents.
Radcliffe will be looking to in-form Luc Durandt to maintain his excellent form with the bat while Wollaton will be bidding to bounce back from their defeat at fellow relegation-threatened rivals Mansfield Hosiery last week as their batting failed to fire once again.
Radcliffe-on-Trent: L Durandt, D Mason, M Gowland, R Sutton, R Brooks, M Bratt, E Torr, P Vickers, C Holden, S Ward, M Taylor.
Wollaton: I Dodd, D Smith, S Shrestha, E Savill, P Wells, T Young, A Reed-Brewer, J Berrisford, J Christiansen, A King, A Davies.
Attenborough – the side currently occupying bottom place – have a difficult fixture away at Welbeck Colliery.
They have won only one match this season and will be looking for strong performances from their leading run scorer Shaun Fitzgibbon (436 runs) and wicket-taker Dominic Harvey (20 wickets).
From last week's team, they bring in Ben Sheppard and Charlie Simkiss to replace Sam Clulow and Craig Heiden.
Welbeck, currently in sixth, will be keen to return to winning ways after having the worst of a draw last time out against Cavs.
Welbeck Colliery: J Ball, C Murphy, M Dobson, P Pollard, V Atri, G Darwin, N Gie, M Higgins, R French, C Shreck, L Bentley.
Attenborough: A Simkiss, C Allcoat, S Fitzgibbon, D Harvey, A Moss, T Murray, M Rayner, B Sheppard, M Shoemaker, C Simkiss, A Singh.
One-time leaders Cuckney take on Caythorpe at home looking to add to their five wins.
They have yet to record back-to-back victories and make four changes to the side which beat Attenborough last week. Cuckney will be without the influential Will Butler.
Visitors Caythorpe are two places below them after three successive winning draws and bring in James Mann for Tim Haynes.
Cuckney: R Stroh, T Ullyott, W Ullyott, D Brown, N Rose, R Bostock, D Hunt, D Watson, I Parkin, A Burgess, S Parish.
Caythorpe: A Hunt, G Welton, J Hawley, S Allcoat, J Hindson, J Hartley, D Clayton, B Wright, S Randall, J Hemmings, J Mann.
The stand-out fixture at the top end of the table sees Papplewick (third) travel to Kimberley (fourth) and separated by only seven points.
Kimberley spoiled a possible four-match winning sequence by losing by 143 runs to leaders Clifton last week and will be keen to record a season double over the visitors.
They make one change from last week's team, bringing in Carl Blake for Richard Adams.
Papplewick desperately need a win to keep their fading championship hopes alive after recent draws with the Academy and Cuckney and a loss at Welbeck.
Kimberley Institute: S Ogrizovic, A Robinson, J Terry, J Sewell, C Blake, G Bacon, P Sidhu, B Johnson, D Wheatley, M Wright.
Papplewick & Linby: A Lloyd, J Wakeling, B Matthews, M Nelson, M Bekker, T Khan, R Rhodes, R Winton, J Rhodes, K Barfield, T Bettridge.
Leaders Clifton travel to Mansfield Hosiery Mills hoping to build on their 24-point lead at the top of the table by doing the double over the Mansfield side.
The visitors' batting has been firing on all cylinders in recent weeks and they include Dan Mierkalns and Sam Jones in their 12-man squad but will be without Scott McNeill.
Mansfield are still in the relegation zone in tenth position and will be hoping that they can build on the momentum gained by last week's win over fellow-strugglers Wollaton, when Sudesh Fernando and Keshara Jayasinghe starred with bat and ball.
Mansfield Hosiery Mills: K Jayasinghe, P Burdett, S Ludlam, A Dobb, G Curtis, R Townsend, M Smallwood, Kieran Garside, M Rodgers, S Fernando, M New.
Clifton Village: D Birch, S Jones, R Harris, L Andrews, M Weightman, J Hollingsworth, S Roberts, D Footitt, P MacMillan, A Walters, A Turner, D Mierkalns.
Second-placed West Indian Cavaliers host Notts Academy at Birchover Park and will want to secure more points than they did in the losing draw they had against the county youngsters earlier in the season Lady Bay.
The Academy had the best of a draw last week against Papplewick but will be without skipper Scott Elstone. They have Bobby Gamble and Hassan Azad back in the side, while Sam Kelsall skippers in Elstone's place.
West Indian Cavaliers: A Afzaal, B Shafayat, D Williamson, A Thomas, A Tudor, M Ali, S Atkinson, P Gada, T Panyangara, O Nurse, Z Faisal.
Notts Academy: A Patel, H Azad, M Robson, S Kelsall, S Wood, A Tillcock, O Swann, B Hutton, A Shepherd, B Gamble, D Cumming.
