Cricket: Balderton pipped to the title on the final day

BRACEBRIDGE Heath pipped Balderton, who had led all season, to take the Newark Alliance title on the final day.

They blew away the challenge of 2007 champions Sleaford, who were skittled for 59. The new champs took just 74 balls to knock them off for a comprehensive eight-wicket triumph.

Plumtree kept in contention for the Division Two title after 56 from Ben Storey helped see off relegated Notts & Arnold by seven wickets.

The promotion decider in Division Three saw Clifton Village come out on top against Gedling & Sherwood. Another half-century from in-form Martin Weightman (55) enabled Clifton Village to set a target of 173. Alex Turner ripped through the visitors batting with 6-6, denying G&S (79) a fourth promotion in as many years.

There was a cracking game to decide the second promotion slot in Division Four.

Gedling Colliery II's achieved a second successive promotion despite being reduced to 8-3 at one stage before skipper Chris Berry blasted 99. He was the only man to get the better of Calverton's Billy Armstrong who took 9-33.

Bingham saw off Claypole by six wickets in the Division Five relegation play-off . Claypole were bowled out for 110, Matt Thomas taking 3-3. Bingham then cruised to safety thanks to a half-century of extras – including 36 wides.

Collingham II are Division Six champions after beating Wiseton (113) by seven wickets. They will be joined by Plumtree II, who beat Burton Joyce.

DIV FOUR: Gedling Colliery II 180 (Chris Berry 99, Josh Holmes 3-12) bt Calverton 137 (Billy Armstrong 67 & 9-33).

DIV FiVE: Claypole 110 lost to Bingham 113-4 (M Thomas 3-3).

DIV SIX: Burton Joyce 68 lost to Plumtree II 110 (Natty Sikand-Youngs 4-21); Collingham II 114-3 (Jonathan Todd 56*, Peter Wilson 3-33) bt Wiseton 113 (Needham 78).
