Council rejects elected mayor
NOTTS County Council has rejected the idea of being led by a Boris Johnson-style elected mayor – despite public support.
Some 89 people responded to a consultation, with almost 60% being in favour of the proposals.

But councillors who attended a full council meeting today voted unanimously to stick with the current model, where a council leader is elected by his or her own party.
Mansfield already has an elected mayor in Tony Egginton.
But some county councillors believed Nottinghamshire is too big and diverse for just one person to take on so much responsibility.
