MANSFIELD District Council has given the green light to proposals to slash £50,000 from the money it gives to community groups.

The town's Citizens' Advice Bureau had expressed concern about being hit by the cuts, fearing its future could be in jeopardy. But the plans were accepted at a full council meeting yesterday.

Councillors also gave a stay of execution to the swimming pool at Meden Vale Leisure Centre in Warsop.

The authority had been considering closing it as part of plans to save £1.4m but the centre has been given six months to run itself.

Deputy Mayor Coun Roger Sutcliffe said: "We will work with the centre to try to find some financial backing it must find it in six months."

“Again, I think County Hall may have something to do with this.”
