Council votes in favour of Workplace Parking Levy
THE city council has officially endorsed the introduction of the Workplace Parking Levy, at a meeting tonight.
Labour and Liberal Democrat councillors voted in favour of implementing the tax, which will pay for two new tram lines, improvements to Nottingham station and fund the city's network of Link buses.
-

Conservative members of Nottingham City Council voted against the measure.
The levy will now be introduced in 2012 at an annual charge of £253 per place. Originally the council planned to launch the tax in 2010 at £185 but the Government deferred the scheme for two years due to concern about the recession.
It will now begin at the level it would have reached by 2012.
Businesses also face paying between £202 and £646 a year to get a licence for providing spaces.
Coun Jane Urquhart, portfolio holder for transport at Nottingham City Council, said: "Saying no to the Workplace Parking Levy means saying no to trams, station improvements, Link buses, job creation, regeneration and no to environmental benefits. This is the right thing for us to do for Nottingham, the economy, socially and environmentally."

“Errrrmmmmmmmmmmm:
Wierd as it may sound the Tram is actually financing itself because guess what.NET have to pay the WPL as well it seems crazy.
No:
As with Council employees' wages, pension "contributions" and taxes:
The private sector taxpayer is paying.
Everyone else is just recycling their private sector taxpayer produced wealth back into the private sector taxpayer funded pot (before taking it back out again the next week.
Along with a whole lot more fresh private sector taxpayer funding.
.
But what are you going to do when you haven't just driven all the motorists out of their cars and onto the tram:
But all the private sector out of business.
And all the private sector workers out of work?
.
You'll soon find out that there isn't a "Taxpayer Moneytree" on which you funding grew as if by magic:
It was created by the industry you, along with the private sector militant unions, destroyed.

“An interesting point raised by andyman and with considerable fact to back it up, and the usual tripe from stupid badger.
As usual it is pick on one element of an interesting post and resort to personal abuse and profanities. Itagain proves two points
1- when you cant counter a factual and accurate poster resort to abuse and slurs.
2- You can take the man out of the gutter but you cant take the gutter out of the man, it shows what you really are.”

“i am absolutly seething at the fact that this is going ahead.
the people who are less likely to use the tram have to pay for it.
i taxed my car for 6 months at the cost of over 100 pounds then there is fuel with high tax.
people say that they are better off on benefits and this only adds to that claim.
also some people say the pros out weigh the cons but who led an investigation into this? the peaple who want to go ahead with it, and if u believe them then ur as crazy as them”

“Just a couple of quotes from the Ten Objectives of the City Council's Bible . . .
Item 2: A heavy progressive income tax.
Item 6: Centralization of the means of communication and transport into the hands of the State.

“It will never happen. Come the next election, Labour will be trashed - and their idiotic polices with them. I must say I am suprised at the namby pamby Liberals sucking up to them - they have done their election hopes no favours.”

“It must be very pleasing to have an idea and then to get others to pay for it.
We have a would-be Marxist governing body in power in Nottingham City so watch out for the next "Tax" hikes to further the cause.
I'l bet they celebrated with "Fine Wines" again at our expense!”

“Do the council realise what they have done here, All they will do is force businesses to relocate outside of the city boundary because of their own deisre to take more money off the general public. Yet again all the council were interested in was fleecing the public.
What the current establishment have go to remember is that there is a General Election between now and 2012 and they will not be allowed to let it happen if the Tories get in power.
There could be other ways the Council could raise the monies; cut the number of councillors to one per ward - make the council a leaner, more efficient business.”

“So not only do you take over 1/3 of my anual earnings through income tax and nat insurance, along with council tax, you now want to tax me over £200 a year for the privilage of going to work!!! Sometimes I wounder if I would be better off on the dole than slaving away 6 nights a week for my £26k pa. The worst of it is I don't even live in Nottingham, the city do not provide a bus/tram or link to the tram from where I live so why the hell should I pay for it. I can see me parking in a pub and walking to work from now on.
CON CON CON CON you robbing B@$T@RD$!!!!”

“Andyman, has Oxford reverted to allowing cars into the city?
From where do you get your figures that 8 businesses a day were going out of business?
You write a lot but most of what you say is boll**cks.”
