Cotterill: I'm tough enough to change Forest's fortunes
STEVE Cotterill today insisted he is tough enough to lead Nottingham Forest through their battle for survival this season and pledged: "We will get through this."
The Reds will be looking to bounce back from a humbling Championship defeat at the hands of Southampton when they face Leicester City in their FA Cup replay tonight.
-

Cotterill admits it was a painful afternoon at the City Ground on Saturday and does not hide his frustration at the club's financial position, which has left him unable to add vital new additions to his squad until players are sold or moved on.
But the manager says he knew what he was taking on when he accepted the job and feels he has the character to see it through – as he proved by steering Portsmouth to safety from a similar position last season.
"Anyone who knows me, knows that there will be disappointment there," said Cotterill.
"But you have to bounce back quickly.
"I knew this was going to be difficult. You do not take over a team that is second from bottom and expect that everything is going to be rosy.
"I knew it was going to be a tough job. But everything I went through at Portsmouth, will stand me in good stead.
"I have to keep working. When we come out of this – and we will do – when we get results, people will look at you in a better light.
"Your resolve is being tested all of the time. I am strong enough to go through this.
"It is tough, but you can't have everything that you want in this life. You have to work long and hard for it.
"I got a three-and-a-half year contract because the board understand the difficulties of the job. We just have to work through those difficulties."
Cotterill says he will keep asking the question when it comes to whether the club can find the funds to bring players in before the window closes at the end of the month.
"I need to keep asking the question if anything is available for us," he said.
"I am not the sort to complain in public, you have to find solutions to the problems you have got."

“ravine...... YES YES YES we damn well do need Billy Davies back. I don;t care how much whinging, bickering and moaning Billy did or does in the future because most of it was justified. Self opinionated, I told you so? These were two of the great Brian Clough traits.... would you have changed those things about him and had none of the success he brought to Forest? Billy Davies saved us 3 seasons ago and he'd do it again now. Clark and Doughty, which ever of them are pulling the strings should get Billy in without delay and put Cotterill, Hasselbaink and Kelly on gardening leave..... Forest staying in the Championship is critical to deliver the funds into the club and thus allowing us to relieve ourselves of the present team management and coaches who are well out of their depth.”

“I don't care if Cotterill has been here for three months and needs time. The fact is we haven't got any time to hang about. Does anyone seriously think he is suddenly going to become a brilliant manager overnight and turn this around? It's not going to happen. Either we sack him now or we blindly accept relegation to League One. I really thought it was an alright appointment when he got us winning four in six games, but that proved to be nothing more than a bounce you get when any new manager comes in. The reality is Cotterill is an average small-time manager. We need a big personality to come in and shake the Club up. Cotterill might be inoffensive, but that is the problem. He is too weak and not obnoxious enough. I cannot believe we are still only two points away from safety. By rights we should be well adrift by now. If someone like Warnock or Davies comes in we might just have a fighting chance, otherwise we may as well end the season now.”

“for the record, I'm not a "tory boy". I hate all political parties equally - it's just the last bunch left an almighty mess and ND openly funded them to the tune of £1m! The point I'm making is perfectly valid - he pinned his colours to the mast and I'm using that to take a pot shot at his decision making and I've yet to see anyone say he made a correct decision over the last 2 years.
Political slantings aside which are just a personal opinion, until recently I had a lot of respect and time for Mr Doughty but in times like this I expected the man to act like a man and step back into breach and make some sort of effort to fix the mess he left. He's acting like a spoilt child who keeps losing at monopoly and is now sulking in a corner.
I truly feel sorry for steve cotterill, it's not he is out of his depth, he's been given concrete boots and had his hands tied together. I fear NFFC is becoming synonymous for being a place to kill your career. I can see us heading down the same path as Portsmouth and Coventry as other have before. What worries me more than anything is that I've always said one big club will fall before football wakes up to the greed and corruption in the sport. I hope we're not on that train.”

“AdampO1 I've been happily £9.25a month worse off ever since the Forest Foundation was established, paying a contribution towards the up keep and development of our Academy. Now,having it held back by a previous Manager,I'm now seeing the new generation of its products apparently being allowed to drift away from the club by an administrative hierarchy who seem unable to keep them financially linked to the club, and a manager who, having praised some of them in one breath, shoves them out on loan and picks a bunch of ageing has beens to do'battle' on our behalf.I think you can find far better things to do with your £4 a month
patbrett-thanks for your remarks:unfortunately, although I agree with much of your team selection(the only additions/alterations I would have made would be Moloney and Lascelles in the side, when fit -quite possibly in place of Chambers and even Gunter) I fear that if everything else that is happening on and off the field is anything to go by,then the young talent we have on our books won't be here to play for us,even if we had a Manager prepared to give them the opportunity.
Ironically,I also agree with much of what redsong says in some of his remarks-which only goes to show that it IS possible to find common ground with people who are diametrically opposed to each other The only poster that would not apply to (ignoring idiots like sneinton ram, mexico martyn etc) would have to be Mickey colossus. Some things are just not possible, however hard one might try.
One slight aside. Some of you are referring to BD professing 'love' for Forest. In football, with one or two very noticeable exceptions,'love, for a club no longer exists either among the badge kissing players, or the Managers. At least,in the latter's case, they can be excused, knowing that the odds of receiving the sack are very short, whereas the players are virtually unsackable .However,in reality, the only love affair Billy has ever conducted in football is with himself, and I would respect him far more if he didn't profess such blatantly insincere emotions. After all,why SHOULD he love Forest-he's only ever had a little over 2 years connection with the club in any form, and spent much of that embroiled in arguments with the owner and CEO.
Final point: if SC is stuck with the dross coaching staff and Assistant Manager that was left behind by Mc Claren, what makes anyone think that BD would be able to return with Messrs Kelly and Darby, without whom he goes nowhere, let alone Chris Fairclough.Financxial restrictions apply to every member of our managerial and coaching staff as well as players.”

“For all you Billyites out there - I had mixed feelings about the man, but you can't argue with how much happier I was when he was here. However ...
Do we really want Billy back? Opinionated, snickering, whingeing, and now "I told you so", Billy? Wee moanin Billy, without his own backroom staff? (We can't afford to get rid of SMc?s entourage and how would he leave them to function for the four days of his absence??) We'll never get anywhere without a big massive shop (and I don't mean that visit to Aldi) Billy? What have ye done ta ma team Billy? I still have grudge against NIge Billy? Billy who's been sitting at home (or getting undressed at someone else's home) since he left, because no-one else will give him a job? Ignore the academy Billy? And the useless in the transfer market - ask a sheep - Billy doesn't enter into the argument. He'd have to magically metamorphose into King Balance the Books Billy.
YES / NO answers.”

“Redsong there you go again. Rubbishing people with incorrect facts. Can you answer the questions I ask you or not. Obviously not as you get all your 'facts' off rumour sites and website forums. And as for you latest post. Can you give us a link to were I have said these things. You can't because I have never said them. If you don't like people responding to you then you need to get your facts right before posting!”

“i guess we all feel the same about last night and some of us want to point the blame to the usual suspects..
On this website personal details were put about ND and his son.
I do object to this shocking behaviour whether it be BD, ND or anyone else.
Redsong is correct and everyone has the right to protest.
This website ought to be monitored more carefully.
The NFFC was closed down when it became abusive.
I would stick with Andy Reid but as Patbrett said not with another load of geriatrics.”

“Okay folks...here's an idea. If the management and board aren't prepared to step in and do the right thing, there's nothing stopping us from doing something.
If we all paid a pound a week to Nottingham Forest PLC they would have more than enough of a weekly income to pay for Billy/Warnock/etc to come and save this club from oblivion. How can they refuse? I'd happily be £4 a month worse off to avoid seeing Forest in League One again. Maybe we could make a formal offer to sponsor a new manager in the same way as various small businesses sponsor the players at home ?
Sounds crazy but fundamentally it solves the problem. NFFC Supporters Club sponsor new manager!!!!! It could happen!!!! Who's with me????!!!!”

“Right a message to Nigel Doughty and Frank Clark (and Arthur must be told).
And before any bright sparks say Doughty has left, He still controls the purse strings so is still in charge.
Billy Davies MUST be brought back before its too late.
Cotterill is a busted flush who's excuses become more pathetic and his demeanor more uninspiring after every defeat the latest being last nights 0-4 debacle at a poor Leicester side.
Anyone who watched Billy on ESPN can see that he still Loves the Club, Loves the Fans, Still believes the players are good enough (unlike 'not sure' Cotterill) and feels he has unfinished business. He even confirmed that he DID offer to come back but that fell on deaf ears.
The fans made it clear they want Billy back by constantly chanting his name throughout the match and the players before the match backed that up with their comments.
The only people who don't seem to want him back and as such are now purposely ruining our club are Clark (disgrace from a former Forest man) Doughty (obviously NOT a fan) and Arthur (is he the issue all along?)
How can these guys allow us to lurch from defeat to defeat without scoring a goal and putting in poor performances without taking needed action.
We are heading into Division 1 because of the decisions and now lack of decisions made by the Board and now it seems they are doing this to punish the fans.
Interesting Billy's comments compared to Cotterill:
BD "The players are good enough they need to be galvanized and told that there are enough points to play for"
SC "The players need to become more battle hardened"
One motivates the other doesn't add a thing!
If ND is a true fan then please Nigel its time to act before its too late.”

“Pat Brett
So let me understand - me explaining to Pavared what my recent posts have been about, which were all about differences of opinon on issues of whether Billy D was supported or whether ND is to blame for us having no defenders makes me obnoxious........mmm
Presumably Mickey c's tirade posting against me is fine !---- in your eyes. Wow interesting stance.
Yourself, Pavared and Mickey C have all said that you "dont want to talk to me anymore" because my views are obnoxious. Now I am a wind-up merchant.?
Many people have fought and died to challenge regimes who tried to suppress peoples opinions because they differ from their own!
I always support my views with the reasons. People are entitled to reply with why they think Im wrong.
Such debate obviously isnt for you now that you have aligned yourself with the posters whose best contributions consist of "They lied They lied" and the all time killer "Doughty is a ram"
Hope you are stimulated with your new team!”
