Cotterill: Missed chances cost us dear again

NOTTINGHAM Forest must rediscover their confidence in front of goal if they are to mount a survival push, said Steve Cotterill today.

The Reds suffered a 2-1 defeat at Middlesbrough on a night when they created a host of opportunities, but only had a Joel Lynch header to show for it.

The defender gave Cotterill's side hope after Boro had gone 2-0 up with goals a minute either side of half-time.

But they were unable to claw their way back to claim a point, even after Middlesbrough had been reduced to ten men following the sending off of Kevin Thomson in the 75th minute.

And Cotterill felt it was a lack of cutting edge in the final third that was most costly.

"We created enough chances again," he said. "But, no matter who plays, we have had great difficulty in putting away our chances this season.

"We have created enough to have won again. We need to take those opportunities.

"We need cool calm heads in front of goal though, we had two or three opportunities to score in the first half and could have been a couple of goals up at half-time.

"We need to take our chances, that is the bottom line. There is a confidence issue. You don't know what it is like until you are out there on the pitch.

"We have done well in the second half. We have lost 2-1, but we had the opportunities to have won the game, again."

Cotterill was also critical of his side's defending for the goals conceded, scored my Marvin Emnes and Lukas Jutkiewicz in the 45th and 46th minutes.

"The two goals we conceded were also disappointing. I was very disappointed with those," he said.

"I would say we were disappointed with the goals we gave away – because we did not look like giving goals away on Saturday. But we gave away a couple of soft goals against Middlesbrough."

Forest also lost Ishmael Miller to a hamstring injury, which could keep him out for weeks.

"It looks like it could be bad, but we don't know yet," said Cotterill.

“Spot on Richie. Cotternil is a joke. He has made our club even more of a joke than it has already become. Year after year of accepting failure and this is the result. There is one constant factor in all this: Mark Arthur. Get him out. Get cotternil out and we may survive and be something again.”

Don't really wanna defend Richard as I think he's got the analytical powers and reasoning ability of a 5 year old... although must point out that it was Frank who appointed SC.

    “Richie W:
I would have thought that after the events of the last 2 weeks the phrase ''WE ALL KNOW WHY HE WAS APPOINTED BUT WHOEVER APPOINTED HIM IS GUILTY OF SENDING THE CLUB TO ITS GRAVE !'' is about the most insensitive thing even a morom could post. Only last week you were apologising for some of the things you spewed about Nigel Doughty, now you come out with this. What a short memory you have, must be as short as your IQ is low.”

“Reid, Blackstock and Lynch on the bench, McGugan and Majewski not even in the squad. Tinkering with formations. Signing Harewood when the guy couldn't score playing in China! Playing Gunter on the right wing, persisting with Miller despite clear signs that he is woefully short of confidence and enthusiasm.

Just a few of the reasons SC should do the right thing and hand the reins to Sean O'D.

I've said it before and i'll say it again. Steve Cotterill is the very definition of second rate and we deserve better”

“COTTERILL IS OUT OF HIS DEPTH AND CLUELESS AT THIS LEVEL - FACT !

WE ALL KNOW WHY HE WAS APPOINTED BUT WHOEVER APPOINTED HIM IS GUILTY OF SENDING THE CLUB TO ITS GRAVE !

And the guy who believes Billy Davies inherited a decent squad here is on another planet- the fact is when Billy took over we were going down and had a pathetic squad- Fact !

5 POINTS OUT OF 39 AND A MANAGER WHO HAS ALREADY ACCEPTED WE'RE GOING DOWN.

THIS CLUB WILL BE BACK IN THE THIRD DIVISION UNLESS FRANK CLARK ACTS NOW !

No more loans, just sack SC with the BAMFORD cash !
This move could save the club because one thing is for sure we are a Division Three club if we stick with the incapable manager !

    COTTERILL OUT !

    BILLY IN NOW !”

“How many times has SC gone out and said the same? Chances doesnt win a match - but poor tactics do help us loose.
No more faith in SC, absolutely none - SC must walk NOW. 6 defenders on the pitch and we`re 1-2 down

3 more matches to travel over from Norway to see, Coventry, Millwall and Blackpool - not looking forward to them at all, but booked is booked. YOUREDS”
