Controversial rebuild of Victoria Baths gets green light
A CONTROVERSIAL rebuild of Victoria Leisure Centre has been agreed this afternoon by Nottingham City Council.
The authority's executive board voted to build a £9.2m leisure centre at the site, but keep the existing clock tower.
-

The decision was made despite protesting campaigners calling for more of the existing Victorian building to be retained.
Detailed designs of the new building will now need to be finalised before work can start.
It is expected that the new centre will be open in 2012.

“I think this decision is bloody Disgusting as I will have no where else to go when it closes my nearest lesuire centre is based with Gedling Borough council and therefore does not accept my City Card and will be more expensive for be to go swimming, My nearest lesuire centre within Nottingham City Council is 2 bus rides away”

“This is history repeating itself. The City of Nottingham allowed its architectural heritage to be blighted once before, when it commissioned the Victoria Centre - and it tried to convince us then that it would look alright if they retained the clock tower. Some people never learn.”

“"There's no excuse for making for making baseless and slanderous accusations about people who work hard for the local communities they serve. Peter Scoffings, Nottingham "..................the only one's that work hard for the local communities that they serve are usually on the lowest rate of pay with no expenses and longer hours, a lot are called cleaners, caretakers, etc and they are constantly being kicked in the teeth by those at the top who are vastly overrated and vastly overpaid!!!!!”

“Wonders if Peter works for the council....
"There's no excuse for making for making baseless and slanderous accusations about people who work hard for the local communities they serve".
I think the audit commission did that in their report.
The truth is, if you want it to close and pull down a lovely Victorian building and part of Nottinghams heritage, tell the public its going to cost too much. Has anyone actually seen the true costs of restoration, probably not, and even if some people have seen quotes, I bet they have been hyped up.
Isn't it about time the council started listening to the people of nottingham.”
