DJANOGLY City Academy celebrated its community mentoring project at an awards event last night.

The project was launched in September as part of the academy's Early Intervention Programme and included behaviour management and football coaching sessions for year eight and nine pupils.

Speakers at the event included Trish Bergan, a campaigner against knife crime since her son Eugene was stabbed to death in Nottingham in December 2002; Michael Johnson from Notts County and Pam Weston, vice principal of the academy.

Mrs Weston said: "The project has helped students to think about the consequences of their behaviour. They have been able to learn new skills and grow in confidence."

The aim of the programme is to lower the risk of youngsters becoming involved in anti-social behaviour, crime or gang culture. They were presented with certificates.
