NIGEL Clough has refused to be drawn on speculation linking him with the vacant manager's job at Nottingham Forest.

Clough has guided Burton Albion to a ten-point lead at the top of the Blue Square Premier after last night's 2-0 victory at Mansfield – the Brewers' tenth in a row in league competition. Fellow ex-Forest star and Evening Post columnist Garry Birtles says now is the right time for Forest to move for Clough. The 42-year-old has also been linked with Derby after the resignation of Paul Jewell.

Clough said: "I have had no contact with either club and I will just get on with doing my job at Burton, as always. I would rather talk about the ten games we have won on the bounce. I don't want anything to detract from that because it is a remarkable achievement. All my mind is on is our game with York on Thursday."

“Step forward Nigel your destiny awaits you. If he goes to Derby it would take the guts out of all genuine Forest fans. Mo Johnson and Rangers. Remember he was first wanted (by us) at the time of the dreadful and worst ever appointment of David (spend millions) Platt , we have been patient ever since. Finally thank you Colin Calderwood the first Forest manager to leave the club in a healthier position than when he arrived since BC. Thank you also for getting rid of a lot of dead wood and filling the side with exciting youngsters. You conducted yourself with great dignity and I for one wish you well”

“Billy Davies :) still can't fool me and when I'm proved to be right....it's highly unlikely we'll be relegated.
Isn't that the main aim for this year, at least??”

“Personally I think ND & MA will go for BD. There's been speculation for some time about Billy and with him being readily available it would make business sense. At the end of the day it will be a business decision and not based on the fans popular choice.”

“Steven i guess it does depend upon who you are comparing him to. The problem with Davies is that there are a significant number who don't want him albeit he does have the experience. This was part of Calderwood's problem in that he didn't really win all the fans over. This means that people like that have to be successful immediately otherwise the fans are on their backs all the time. Chairmen etc don't want to be on the receiving end of aggressive taunting. Cloughie wouldn't have that problem.

Having said that, the new manager has to be successful fairly quickly given our position in the league so you do have a valid point.”

“These comments were made to BBC radio DERBY, so any inference you are drawing will apply to the Derby job. He probably hasn't been asked about the Forest job at all, by anyone, journalists included.”
