Clear plans for leisure centre
UNCERTAINTY continues to surround the future of leisure facilities in the east of the city.
In February, Nottingham City Council announced it intended to close the Victoria Leisure Centre in Sneinton.
Under pressure from residents it changed tack and declared it would pay for a replacement, worth up to £7m.
No details were given as to when that would happen, where the money would come from, or whether the existing facility would continue to serve the community until the new leisure centre is ready.
Now, it has emerged that Nottingham City Council has not budgeted to replace the Victoria Leisure Centre in its three-year financial programme, increasing the unease among those who have campaigned for the site.
In addition, the council has again refused to confirm how long the existing leisure centre will stay open.
This undermines the viability of the swimming pool by putting doubt in the minds of users and staff. Clarity about future plans is much needed.
