Clapham: Notts must sort out Meadow Lane form
JAMIE Clapham admits Notts County's recent results at Meadow Lane are not good enough.
The Magpies went six home league games unbeaten at the start of the season, before losing 2-1 to Rochdale on October 28.
They also started the new year with four wins out of five – against Exeter, Port Vale, Barnet and Bradford.
But the 3-1 victory against the Bantams on February 28 is Notts' last home win.
And the defeat to Grimsby is the fourth in their last five games, following losses to Luton, Gillingham and Chester.
Clapham maintains Notts' performances in the last few home games merited greater reward – but concedes one point from a possible 15 is unacceptable.
He said: "It's happened a lot this season. We have dominated a lot of games but our recent results are just not good enough."
The defender felt the Magpies would have been out of sight in the first half against Grimsby without the heroics of the visitors' keeper Wayne Henderson.
"We had so many chances, their keeper made three or four excellent saves," he added.
"It would not have flattered us to be three or four up by half-time.
"Somehow we went in 0-0 so we had to start again in the second half but they scored from a set-play, just like last week when Chester scored with a free-header.
"Pilks didn't really have anything to do all game except pick the ball out of his net.
"It's hard to take losing like that because I thought we did pretty well."
Clapham admits the players are under pressure in the last three games of the season, even though the Magpies are safe in the Football League.
And while he is expecting a tough trip to Morecambe on Saturday, he believes playing away from Meadow Lane will suit them.
"It's not going to be easy at Morecambe but in the last three away games we have played really well," he said.
"We have just played two home games against two of the bottom teams in the division. We were expected to beat them, and in all fairness we should, but it hasn't happened.
"Playing away from home might just suit us a bit better at the moment because there is less pressure."
