City school to stage debate competition
THE Djanogly City Academy, in Forest Fields, is hosting the second round of the Urban Debate League contest to help pupils learn public speaking.
The school's year 8 and 9 teams were triumphant in the first round held at Top Valley Academy last month, where they pitted their wits against teams from the Nottingham Girls' High School.
For their winning performance, the Djanogly team debated "this house would ban media coverage of extremist parties" and "this house would ban gambling".
The competition is run by an organisation called Debate Mate and it is the culmination of weeks of after-school clubs where students have had the chance to develop their debating skills.
