“I just don't understand the people apposing the new stadium. They are so un-educated and mis-informed. When will you get it into your heads that the City Ground CANNOT EXPAND!! There is no plausable reason to not want the bid. You are clearly just a bunch of sad miserable old men that don't want anything good to happen to our city. You would rather Nottingham remain in the dark ages and fall behind to no longer be considered one of the UK's leading cities. Just take a look at the comments on this page. If this website were an indicator or a cross section of what Nottingham folk think, then no, not everybody backs the bid, not even in the slightest.

This is the arrogant way in which Cllr Collins and his cronies go about their business. They convince themselves they know best for everyone and try to hoodwink you into thinking their way is what the majority want. Clearly not the case here!

It would be most interesting if this matter was actually put to some kind of vote, but then thats REAL democracy, something this country has never, ever seen. What we have is a very poor relation of democracy (at best) and dictatorship dressed up as democracy (at worst).”

“First up, they are using Nottingham Forest as the bait for this bid. Every Forest fans knows that we would have to move stadiums (an unpopular move amongst every fan I personally know). What are Notts County putting forward for this? They risk none of their heritage but stand to gain a lot, whereas Forest fans risk losing the City Ground if the bid is successful. Your ordinary fan in the street was NOT consulted at any stage during this whole debacle and for that reason alone, I hope the bid fails and hope it fails miserably. I am all for bringing the competition to Nottingham, but not if Forest fans (and only forest fans) have to make sacrifices in order to so.

This bid is flawed on several fronts, I could go on but wont bother since my opinion (or anyone else's for that matter)obviously does'nt come into it at any stage. That is until they expect people to start trudging out to Gamston to watch forest matches, which is something I will not be doing if the bid is successful. Mr Doughty, I think your short term thinking has damaged your long term popularity.”

“Financing for a new stadium. Pretty similar to the Man City deal which saw them take over at Eastlands. We hand back the lease for the CG to the council. they sell the land for redevelopment (and that land is worth a few quid) and put it towards the new stadium. Sell some of the land around the new stadium to a property developer and along with whatever grants are on offer we might just have enough. That side of things is not my problem though, will leave that to my mate Mr Collins (who is well aware of my large donations to the Labour party).”

“Building a new stadium wil have many benefits for the area, not least work in a recession for local people. The current ground cannot be redeveloped due to its size and location, it simply would not meet the newer legal requirements.

Maintaining old grounds is costly, a new ground would be so much cheaper, thus conserving club funds for new players, etc. This stadium will also be used as a multi use stadium, thus attracting more income into the area, rather than letting it go elsewhere in the country.

What happens in the future, say 10 years time when the safety requirements for stadia are again upgraded and the current ground cannot meet them, and more importantly, who is going to pay.

Fans make an atmosphere, not the stadiums, so there is no real reasons, other than seemingly petty ones, for not accepting a new ground.”

“From Me, To You I can well understand that football is the nation's, and possibly the world's favorite sport, and so I can understand what having something like this would generate.

But that needs to be balanced against the costs involved, and not just financial; the loss of green space, the need for upgraded transport around the area ETC.
