City looks grotty

This is Nottingham

A new batch of students has arrived with the same old story.

Noise and filth.

If I was a tourist visiting Nottingham I would not want to come back.

Walking round Lenton, the city centre and Arboretum, I am disgusted and ashamed that this is my home city.

It really looks grotty with the litter, broken glass, food scraps, vomit, dog faeces, and various obscene stains on the pavement, not to mention the student areas where bed sheets and various items of clothing are being used as makeshift curtains.

You would expect these things in a third world country.

The logo "Proud of Nottingham" should be omitted from vehicles and booklets.

And they are telling other people round the world how to live.

What a sad and sorry joke this country has become.

    “Paul Martin (30/09).
It is the students making the streets of Nottingham look shabby.
It was never like this before the year 2000.
Also what residents? It is mostly studentas in large parts of Nottingham etc.
Who is going to listen to a handful of residents anyway.
The landlords are only a small part of a bigger problem.
Who gave authorisation for towns and cities to be turned into student campuses.
Do you live in a student area if you don't you should come and experience it for yourself.
I and many others have had this forced upon us,certainly not by choice as we had no choice or say in the matter.
The residents who were here 8 years ago did object to student accommodation being built but the council did not want to know.
    Unsurprisingly.
Have you ever been in the City of Nottingham on a Friday morning or weekends to see the handy work of students,it is absolutely sickening or are you saying it is the landlords vomitting and urinating everywhere and waking people up in the early hours etc?”

“All too often people blame the students when the real villains are the buy-to-let landlords. They should be made to keep their properties in a decent state of repair and it is up to the residents of Lenton and other areas to see that complaints are made against these absente landlords.”

“I agree that Lenton is filthy as I often walk down Seely Road and it is a depressing experience. Let's hope the Council get the extra powers they need to control student areas better. Though it's probably too late for Lenton maybe they'll be able to stop, for example, the Wollaton Park bungalow estate going the same way as it seems to be in danger of doing.”
