City hospital bosses to cut workforce by 400 to cope with fall in NHS funding
NOTTINGHAM'S hospitals are to cut 400 jobs to help make up to £40m of extra savings.
Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, which runs the City Hospital and Queen's Medical Centre, had already planned to save £35m next year, but it now anticipates the total savings could be between £55m and £75m.

The problem has arisen because NHS primary care trusts, which pay the hospitals for services, have warned they expect to receive less money than they need from the Government next year.
Hospital bosses hope to cut most of the 400 posts from the 13,000-strong workforce by not filling vacancies.
Back office and administrative services are being cut, while the hospitals hope they can also find ways to make services cheaper and more efficient. Hospitals Trust chief executive Dr Peter Homa said it aimed to "make sure there is no negative impact on the quality of patient care".
But union officials say it is inevitable the cuts will hit quality.
Unison representative Martin Benn said: "We are saying there is no more fat to trim from the bone. It will be difficult to lose 400 posts without a knock-on impact."
The coalition government has pledged to protect NHS spending. It is expected to increase health service funding when an announcement is made next month, but PCTs fear this will not keep pace with the rising demand on services.

“Lets face it after the last election, we just knew things like this happen,
the Tories have little or no interest in the NHS, to them it is something for the lower class, and if they could they would do away with it as quickly as possible.
David (Nottingham) do you honestly think, that had a Tory government been in control over the last thirteen years, we would have come through a world recession unscythed, on the evidence of David Cameron &co the answer is a resounding NO”

“Andyman, we hear a lot in the tabloids about these so called 'non-jobs.'
Do they include the new Improvement Director at Nottinghamshire County Council?”

“Daz I usually find it helps to actually read a persons post before making a fool of yourself when responding. My post was as a response to David of Nottinghams assertion that this recession was purely down to the labour goverment.
I just pointed out that irresponsible lending by the banks was also a trigger for the recession as was as you quite righly point out was irresponsible borrowing. To sum up the main point I was trying to make was that I believe there was more than one factor to our current plight. A fact lost in your response to me but to be expected given your form on here”

“Sue
Lets get this straight.
The banks were irresponsible in lending out so much money, Yes
They loaned out money because that is what banks do.
They leant out too much money because too many people wanted it and they could only see massive profits.
The blame should mainly go to the people who borrowed money and never paid it back, they are the ones who caused the problems in the main. Blaming the banks is what most people do because they have read it in sme rag and have not looked into the story in more detail.
The banks are partly to blame.
The govt is partly to blame.
People who borrowed too much are the ones who take the most blame.
But don't let the facts get in the way of your opinion.”

“There appears to be a large number of non jobs sloely created by the last administration for the generation of statistics and their manipulation. If it is these which are being removed than i have no issue, if it is staff directly concerned with the operational running, then i have reservations.
As usual we have little detail, just a story generated around headlines.”
