PEOPLE in Nottingham don't take the health of their heart seriously enough, a survey has found.

Lloyds Pharmacy asked 121 people in Nottingham about the health of their heart and found that just seven per cent feared developing heart disease – despite it being the leading cause of death in the UK.

And 38 per cent said that only when they'd either had a heart attack or stroke would they start being conscious about their heart health.

Lloyds Pharmacy conducted the survey to mark National Heart Month.

Gordon Heeley, pharmacist at Lloyds Pharmacy, Sneinton Road, Nottingham, said: "With your heart it's easy to fall into the trap of 'out of sight out of mind' – people are more likely to focus on health issues that they can see or that have more obvious symptoms."
