Squash: Nottingham's Eddie Charlton went down in the quarter-finals of the National Championships in Manchester.

He was beaten 11-5, 11-9, 13-11, in 47 minutes, by No.4 seed Adrian Grant (Kent).

Charlton, the 14th seed who went through after the last-minute withdrawal of fifth seed Tom Richards, was disappointed with his performance.

"It was a bit of an anti- climax not playing Tom in the earlier round. I was looking forward to having a shot at him," said the 23-year-old.

"I didn't play quite as well as I can do – he's a tough opponent but I just didn't play my best game.

"But it was a great experience playing on the glass court. This is where I want to be!"

Nottingham team-mate Emma Beddoes also went out at the quarter-final stage in the ladies' event, 13-11, 11-4, 11-2, to No.2 seed and world No.4 Madeline Perry (Ireland).
