IF it's Friday, it's the beginning of another week of blues, kicking off tonight with local band Booba Dust giving the punters a taste of 40s, 50s, and 60s R&B at the Fox and Crown, Newark, while Trent Navigation in Meadow Lane has Martin "Ollie" Holroyd.

The Ron Sayer Band is to be found tomorrow at the Flowerpot in Derby.

Ron is a singer-songwriter, full of the blues but with a lot of soul.

Down at the GuitarBar, Sherwood Rise, there's Jeffrey Foucault, an American musician performing in an Americana style; an old soul in a young body. Tomorrow also sees Shades Of Blue at the White Hart, Lenton, and again on Sunday at the Lincolnshire Poacher. The blues week closes on Thursday with a chance to see Henrik Freischlader, supported by Albany Down, at the Flowerpot.

Forward notice of an event on February 10 that marks something new on the blues calendar at the Running Horse. This is a transatlantic venture with San Diego's Blues Hall Of Fame, whose purpose is "to present and preserve the past, present and future history of blues music, a unique American Heritage art form by inducting, promoting and honouring the Great Master Blues Artists and Great Local Blues Artist of The World." Did you get all that?

Mick Rutherford who was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2011 as Ambassador for England, has been asked to induct some new UK (including Nottingham-based) musicians for 2013.

There will be music from 3pm, plus merchandise.

The induction will take place early in the evening, leaving time to enjoy some of the live blues music from the inductees. Entry is free. Those involved with the event include Barry Turner, Colin Staples, Paul Westmoreland, Colin Etches, Tony McPhee, Papa George, Alan Fish and Shelia McFarlane will be there.

Mick Rutherford will be in charge and I've been invited along to take a look for the column and maybe do a bit of MCing at the same time!
