A MAN says he is in shock after a large firework exploded in his car.

Nichoi Reid's Volkswagen Polo was parked outside his home in Bells Lane, Broxtowe, when the firework went off at about 10.40pm last night.

The 20-year-old said: "I saw a red flame and when I came out I saw my car all mashed.

"The whole windscreen had blown off and the passenger seat was blown out.

"I don't know who would do that. It's shocked me."

The road was closed for about three hours as police, the fire service and a bomb disposal unit made the area safe.

A mother-of-three who lives near Mr Reid said: "The living room lit up and there was smoke everywhere. I was panicking, we didn't know what it was."

Anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in and around Bells Lane last night should call police on 0115 967 0999 ext 4562.
