SPORT at Sherwood Forest Fishery was hit when the starter motor on the generator broke. The aerators would not work, so the lake froze.

When the action got underway on Holmedale on Wednesday, Pete Hodgetts was into carp from the start at peg 32.

He landed 103-7 of carp to 8lb on 13m pole, alternating between pellet and meat on the hook.

Second place went to Worksop's Andy Lakey on peg 45. He fished pole and corn at 16m tight up to the island for 58-10 of carp to 4lb.

They had to break the ice again for the second round of the winter League on Sunday, but everyone caught.

Ian Boyd (Woodhouse Angling Centre) was one of the last to catch. But a run of quality roach in the final hour on caster, on Cavendish 1, saw him take 5lb and a narrow win over Mansfield's Wayne Heywood.

Heywood, on peg 5, weighed 4-13 of roach and perch on pole caster and maggot. Another Mansfield rod, Jim Potter, took third spot with 4-9 of roach and perch.

JOHN Johnson chalked up another win in the Nottingham AA Disabled & 60+ match on Strelley Pond.

After recent very poor matches this one produced better weights with some decent roach showing.

Johnson, on peg 9 on the wood side, fished 11m pole, with pinkie or maggot, for 8-10. It was mainly roach, plus a couple of skimmers.

It was enough to edge out Pete Warren, on peg 18 on the motorway bank, who had 8-9-8 of roach and skimmers on pole with pellet or caster.

Colin Wright, in third spot, fished pole and pellet for 8-2-4, mainly skimmers, off peg 1.

THE seventh round of the Winter League at Rycroft turned out to be cracker, with more than 740lb of fish weighed in. Jamie Bonsall topped the 31-pegger with 66-7, on pole and pellet, at Moat 27.

Alan Watts and Mark Fox tied for second with 63-12, while Chris Pavlou, Steve Stone, Dave Colver and Barry Walters also topped the 50lb mark.

Saturday's Open was won by Nottingham's Pete Warren. He managed to tempt seven big carp for 44-3 on bomb, bread and white boilies, at peg 2 on the Carp Lake. Young Jake Hemmings snatched second spot with 15-11.
