MANSFIELD Town midfielder Andy Burgess has called on the club's disgruntled fans to stick with the players – or risk killing their play-off dream.

The Stags struggled to a goalless draw with Tamworth on Saturday, a blow to their top-five aspirations in the Blue Square Premier.

It led to them being booed off amid chants of 'what a load of rubbish'.

Burgess, who came on as a second-half substitute, was not impressed by the reaction of the Field Mill faithful.

And he called on them to get behind the players against play-off rivals York City tomorrow night.

"I was not happy," he said. "Kyle Perry and myself walked off, and there was just one lady clapping.

"At the end of the day they pay their money and are entitled to their opinion. But we have gone five unbeaten, are very much in the shout to get promoted out of this league and we need everybody together.

"If they are not going to be behind us, what can we do about that?

"If they think that helps, I am amazed. They are frustrated we have not won the game but so are we, as much as anybody.

"We want to get three points every game, we want to win 4-0 every game but it does not always happen, that is football.

"Coming off to boos and 'what a load of rubbish', well, I would rather play in front of one man if that is going to be their attitude.

"That is football supporters for you. But we will come in Tuesday, try and win the match as much as we did this one and if we win 2-0, I am sure they will stand up clapping us off. But that is their entitlement.

"When your home fans get on your back, it gives everyone a lift in the away end and gives away players a lift and it is negative to us."
