Broadband speeds 'aren't up to scratch' says IoD boss
BROADBAND speeds and reliability have to match up to the "real world", said Ron Lynch, East Midlands regional director of the Institute of Directors.
Much work had to be carried out before the service matched up to the rhetoric coming from Westminster and Whitehall, he said. "The IoD's East Midlands' committees and members have been very supportive of several initiatives in the region aimed at ensuring that local businesses reap the benefits of faster broadband," he said.
"Fast, reliable internet connections are essential to a modern business – but far too often our existing infrastructure falls short.
"Increasing internet speeds would encourage many employers to invest in expanding their businesses and taking on more staff, giving the economy a welcome boost."

He went on: "The digital age is about flexibility and efficiency, but rural businesses in particular are missing out on those advantages because the landline and mobile networks simply aren't up to scratch in large parts of the countryside."
