A BRAZILIAN couple have been thanked by the Mayor of Mansfield while on a visit to the UK.

Deléo and Teté Ribeiro, who live in Florianapolis in Brazil, have played host to Scouts from Mansfield on two occasions, in 2004 and 2006.

This week they were in the UK for their silver wedding anniversary and were given a present by executive mayor, Tony Egginton.

He presented them with a silver tray and a pennant containing Mansfield District Council's crest.

The couple visited the mayor with their daughter, Elisza, 22, who is staying in Mansfield to improve her English.

Mr Egginton said: "I was delighted to meet Deléo and Teté here at the civic centre in Mansfield and help them celebrate their special day.

"This also gave me the opportunity to thank them for all their hard work they carried out in hosting Mansfield's Scouts, who gained 27 expedition belts – a feat unbeaten by any district in Notts."
