MICHAEL Boulding is welcome to return to Field Mill if he does not secure a deal at Barnsley.

That's the message from Stags manager David Holdsworth after the experienced striker chose to try his luck at Oakwell.

Boulding had been on trial at Field Mill, playing in the 1-0 win over Sheffield United and scoring in Wednesday's 3-0 behind-closed-doors victory over the Tykes.

His performance has alerted Barnsley boss Mark Robins and seemingly scuppered Mansfield's hopes of bringing the 34-year-old back for a third spell.

But Holdsworth said: "The door is still open for him if it doesn't work out there, he will be welcome back here – unless I have brought in a striker or two by then."

Boulding's departure is frustrating for Holdsworth who has no fit strikers for tomorrow's clash at Frickley.

Holdsworth has ended his interest in a striker who is currently playing abroad after being quoted a transfer fee of £30,000.
