Blackstock sure he has proved his point at Forest

DEXTER Blackstock believes he has proved the people who said he was 'crazy' to sign for Nottingham Forest wrong.

And he today insisted: "I was always confident the club would challenge for promotion this season."

The striker, who could be drafted into the side that faces Doncaster today after recovering from injury, revealed that some had questioned why he had signed for Forest last season, when the club were fighting relegation.

"One of the main reasons I came here was the ambition, you could see where the club was going," he said.

"When they came calling for me to come on loan, they were two points adrift in the relegation zone and people thought it was a crazy move for me.

"But I brought into the plan; into what the manager and chairman told me – and look where we are now.

"We are just a few points off the play-off places and we could have more points on the board.

"Things are definitely on the up. And I am not surprised about that, because I believed what I was told. If I thought there was another relegation battle on the horizon, I would not have come here.

"I would have stayed at QPR. But, even when I first came I did not think for a moment that we would go down and I was quietly confident that we would be up there this season.

"People thought I was crazy at the time. But I knew I wasn't."

Blackstock believes the team spirit forged under Billy Davies has been the key to Forest's success so far.

And, while the club's six-goal top scorer hopes to get back among the goals on his return, he says he would put Forest's success ahead of personal glory.

"It is massive, if we can extend the run. Being unbeaten for nine games is something to be proud of," he said.

"We don't want to give that up easily, we need to fight to the death to keep that going – but I am sure the lads will.

"It is not about personal glory, it not about wanting to score goals for myself, it is about how far Forest have come in the past year and continuing that progression.

"A draw at Boro is not a bad result. But we did think we could have won the game – that shows how far we have come.

"They have just been relegated from the Premier League and we were disappointed to have come away with a draw.

"But we are very confident in what we have got, in terms of our ability. Our fear factor is none existent. We are not scared of anyone.

"There is a bond and a togetherness through the squad and you can see that on the field."

And Blackstock says it is opposition sides who should fear facing Forest.

"We are nine unbeaten, we haven't lost away from home all season," he said.

"You can't pick who you want to play every weekend but, if you could, I don't think many teams would pick us to face.

"Teams should be fearful coming here. I am sure they will be."

“Just about to head for the City Ground. I'm expecting a decent game and 3 points today. Most of our squad are available apart from Cohen who is suspended and Nathan "Legend" Tyson who isn't fit (as far as I know). Billy's got selection problems today. Good ones. Who to play in midfield? Mckenna, Moussi, McGugan, Anderson or Majewski. Upfront? Earnie, Blackstock, McGoldrick, Garner or Adebola? Spoilt for choice. come on u reds.”

Well said Al we should be confident as long as some of us dont become arrogant and think we,re going to stroll the game.We need to be at it from the first whistle coz as we have found out before Donny are no mugs.We need to win the midfield battle thats why I agree Billy will play one up front with Raddy or mcgoldrick playing just off him at the front of a midield 5 .Its not negative to do this as its worked really well for us this season but it does work best with Dex leading the line.COME ON U REDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“Can't remember how long it has been since ive woke up every saturday so happy. Dex is right we shouldnt fear anybody in this league ang i think today could realy be the start of our season. We need to batter sombody 3,4 or 5 nil and doncaster may just be the team. I belive we would then start flying and should take promotion whenever the chance comes be it this season next or the season after. Promotion then relegation is dissapionting but no shame and will still generate huge amounts of cash to develop further. Roll on 3 0 clock.”

“Richie, be confident last season is behind us, as billy says Boro' Cardiff, those are good teams and we were the better but let ourselves down on those scoring chances, billy will play one up front for sure, but we have now good players on the bench to turn things around, get ready for a rollercoaster of a day, your neck should be tingling, cos mine is, U REDS”
