Blackstock: Job done but let's finish on a high
DEXTER Blackstock is relishing finishing his Nottingham Forest loan stint on an unbeaten note tomorrow in front of a sell-out City Ground crowd.
The QPR striker was brought in on loan with six games to go with the simple mission of helping save Forest from the drop.
He has fired two vital goals, including the injury time winner against Bristol City on Easter Saturday, and not been on the losing side since he arrived.
With safety now secured, he knows it will be party time tomorrow against his former club Southampton.
And Blackstock is delighted to have played his part.
He said: "We want to win this game and end the season on a real high.
"The main job is done now and we have managed to retain Championship status which is what we were striving towards.
"It could not have gone any better for me. I said when I came if I did not score but we stayed up, it would be a successful loan spell.
"But for me to chip in with a couple of goals and a couple of assists is a bonus. That is me helping the team and everyone has to take credit for it.
"The players have risen up to it when the pressure was really on.
"It is a young squad and to go out and play in front of big crowds, both home and away, and rise to it is credit to them.
"I have loved every minute of being here and I know quite a lot of the players and I have fitted in straight away.
"The fan base, the training ground, the stadium, everything is great about Nottingham Forest."
Blackstock is tipping the Reds to be challenging at the right end of the Championship table next season and did not rule out being at the City Ground to play a part.
He said: "It is a sell-out on Sunday and 30,000 will be here in the Championship, for a team at the bottom end of the table. What more can you ask for? If it was a bigger ground, how many more would be in there?
"The club is destined for the Premier League and if this club had gone into League One it would have been a disaster, they should not even be in the Championship.
"Next season is massive for Nottingham Forest and I know the manager will not want to be in this position.
"He is very ambitious and has spent most of his time at the top end of the league challenging for promotion.
"Forest not be down there so if I can be part of that then great, if I can't I will have to go back to QPR."
Blackstock is still under contract at QPR and Forest would have to make a successful bid to land the Loftus Road outfit's top goalscorer for this season.
But he is open to the idea of a move.
"It is out of my hands, it is between the two clubs and if they do speak, I will be more than happy to come and talk to Nottingham Forest," he said.
But he will have mixed feelings tomorrow when he lines up for the club where he made his professional bow, knowing Southampton have already been relegated to League One.
He added: "It is terrible, especially with the amount of players that have come out of Southampton and produced big transfer fees.
"Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, Beattie, Crouchy. Massive money has gone through that club.
"But then again, we do not know what really happened. I am sure the club will be back."

“Please bring Dexter back next season, Billy......if not on a permanent, then a season loan? One way or another, lets have this lad back next season. He, just like Anderson, talks like a red, acts like a red and plays how a red should play. I've been massively proud of all our loan signings this season, they've shown a true commitment to our cause. Thank you very much lads.”
