Each evening I pick up the Evening Post and I read about Radford St.Anns The Meadows and now Bulwell once again all these places have millions of pounds spent on them improving the areas and lives of residents . What I would like to ask the powers that be namely our local councillors when are we going to see vast improvements made in Bilborough to enhance the lives of all residents . What do we have in Bilborough a decaying row of shops that are in great need of upgrading one pub that was at onetime the hub of the community a library that is closed most of the time we have the Birchover community centre built but it was beset with problems from the start and as such people just stopped supporting the venue and it became the place for the local youngsters to congregate and make mischief it was not the kind of community centre most wanted it was out of the way of most of the local community .

Our children lost their local swing park between Caincross and Hoylake Crescents and it was never replaced it just became derelict ground also. Glaisdale drive where most local people were employed factories closed and were left to fall derelict the old Thorn EMI Building was  boarded up 15 years ago and just left the old Crossland Filters Building was demolished and just left as derelict land that fell to vandalism . So what as Bilborough got going for it well it had the new Samworth Academy built to replace the old William Sharp school oh and we had a new Health Centre built on the Old Grange . We also had the Health Centre on Bracebridge Drive redeveloped and it is now called a Medical Centre all very nice if you can get an appointment to see a doctor . So Please may I ask when are the good people of Bilborough going to see Our local councillors promoting our area to industry and to the superstores when are they going to sell us as a thriving community and not as a run down derelict area when are we going to be linked up to the tram system when are we going to have a Wetherspoons when are we going to have a Asda or a Morrisons

“So that there will be no accusation of bias let me establish my credentials.

In the 1950`s and part of 60`s

I used to live in Bilborough, and no I am not looking with rose tinted spectacles.

Every male was gainfully employed, practically no-one working in non jobs (service jobs and non jobs created to keep unemployment down e.g. pencil pushers in the sheltered workshop of the NHS and public service). Women who wanted to work and not be full time MARRIED home makers comprised the remainder. People were ashamed to be unemployed and `on the dole'. Unmarried mothers were almost unheard of.Drug's NEVER ,just a few beers at the weekend were all that most could afford.

The streets were immaculate as were the homes and gardens. Crime ,what crime?

How did the people cope for enjoyment? -remember no TV until mid 50`s and certainly no cars.

The Grange,-fully utilized every night. Dances twice a week. Whist and solo other nights Youth clubs. Films on a Saturday.

    Fantastic civic pride and responsibility.

Only 1 pub and that was never much used. The church (s) were well supported with a brilliant chap (David Williams ) as a tower of strength in the midst. The people were the community, and almost without exception they pulled together for the common good.

Public transport was clean, cheap and to the minute to get people to work. No parking fines and other such rubbish as we have today.

I read of what Bilborough has become and weep. A murder a few doors from where I lived this Christmas, drug dealing, robbery etc.Why has this all developed? No one wants to do an honest days work. Apathy engendered by our so called leaders in Council. Ridiculous amounts of money wasted on people that have never worked from families that never will. That is Bilborough today.”

“The area is fine, its the muppets that live in these areas that need changing. Agreed not everyone is the same but the vast majority of the people in certain areas of Nottingham are not worth the oxygen they breath.”
