Bestwood get revenge on Beechdale in Senior Cup

BESTWOOD MW got revenge on Beechdale as they triumphed in a repeat of last season's Senior Cup final penalty drama.

Beechdale won that game to lift the trophy but Bestwood eventually won this time round and go through to the third round after a sudden-death penalty shoot-out.

Bestwood had a three-goal lead thanks to a Liam Dunston brace and Levi Stewart strike. But Dwayne Haywood, Martin Cassidy and Red Wilmot leveled at 3-3 for Beechdale before the penalties.

Jamie Dyer, who missed in last season's cup final shoot-out to hand Beechdale the trophy, scored the winning spot kick this time round.

Joining Bestwood in the next round are Division One FC Bedstead who knocked out Premier NSF Locksmart on penalties, after also drawing 3-3 after extra time.

A Dominic Masotano double and goals from Dane Chapman and Nick Gore helped Hucknall Rangers defeat New Venture 4-3.

Jamie Holt, Terry Cavanagh and Lance Jeffrey replied.

Jason Knowles scored two as Medz Reds beat Sporting Wheelbarrow 6-2 and Matt Astill, Scott Kirk and Kenneth Drury all scored twice as Total trounced Volo 8-0.

AFC Mill put nine past Clifton Bridge Inn thanks largely to a Simon Cassidy hat-trick and two from Adam Murphy.

The top two divisions only saw four games because of cup action.

Wellington Inn extended their lead at the top of the Premier Division after beating Bear FC with goals from John Hughes and Liam Bradley.

Kimberley MW were emphatic 7-1 winners over Bingham Town. Jake Fisher, Ryan Doughty and Lee Stevenson all struck twice with George Bradley getting the other.

Boyes led the way with four goals as Meadows won for only the second time this season, but did it in style – 8-1 winners over bottom side Nottingham Knight.

Bestwood MW Res leapfrogged their hosts Linney Group with their first win of the season thanks to Daniel Bellamy (2), Alan Levers, Mark Harrison and Scott Dunston.

Liam Savage scored all four for Chaffoteaux in Division Two at Hilltop Castle.

Castle also lost their 100% league record in the 4-3 defeat.

That result, coupled with a 5-2 home win over DTD enabled Blacks Head to close the gap at the top to just two points.

Paul Walker (3) did the bulk of the damage for Blacks with Joe Arrod and an own goal completing their win.

Kirk Flint and Chris Burrows helped Palmerston Arms to a 3-1 win over AFC Nottingham.

Rushcliffe beat Springfield United by the same scoreline courtesy of a Liam Hopkins brace and a single strike by Glen Rumford.

James Owen score twice as he helped Wheelhouse win 4-3 at Rise Park.

The top six sides all recorded victories in Division Three and leaders Golden Ball, the only one of them at home, put five past Gremio. That included a hat-trick for Sean Todd with William Woods and Barry Campbell getting the others in a 5-1 win.

A goal apiece for Luke Thorpe, Steve Chambers and David Swinscoe helped Pure FC get back to winning ways with a 3-1 reverse at PMR.

La Toque's good form continued with Brooks scoring both in a 2-1 win at Arnold while Sean Allen and Robbie England helped themselves to hat-tricks as Headstocks ran riot at under-strength Cema FC, winning 8-2.

MIS United scored four without reply at Bread and Bitter FC while an under-strength Optima came back from Bingham Town Reserves with a 2-1 win thanks to a Jo Luwic brace.

The only other game in the division saw Southbank slip to a 5-1 home reverse at the hands of NCH, who had Ray Eddieshaw (3), Mark Jackson and Vialle on the scoresheet. Chris Handley replied.
