A MAN has been jailed after he sexually assaulted a woman while she was out running.

Benjamin Perry got out of his car, removed his clothes and attempted to disguise himself by pulling his T-shirt over his head and wearing sunglasses.

He pursued the woman and grabbed her bottom as she was jogging in Rempstone last September.

She looked behind to see Perry performing a sexual act in the street.

She then fled to a nearby farm to call police.

She remembered part of Perry's registration number and the colour and make of the car he was driving.

Police traced Perry to his home – where he was naked from the waist up – and arrested him.

Nottingham Crown Court heard he was on a community order at the time for exposing himself to two 15-year-old girls – one who was jogging and another who was riding a horse.

In the first incident he drove past the teenager.

He was naked from the waist down and wearing a deer-stalker hat.

In the second he was naked and performing a sexual act.

Perry, 33, of Russell Street, Loughborough, admitted the latest sexual offence.

The community order was revoked and replaced with 12 months in prison.

He received two-and-a-half years to be served consecutively for the new offence and was ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for life.

Judge Michael Stokes QC said the victim must have been terrified, particularly when she turned round and saw him performing the sexual act.

"I'm now told you accept you have a problem," he told Perry.

"That indeed is an understatement.

"Men who commit this type of offence, as your actions have demonstrated, are highly manipulative."

He said the sentencing guidelines for an offence of this gravity were "wholly inadequate".

The court heard, in mitigation, that Perry is married and deeply embarrassed and ashamed about what he had done.
