Belvoir hit the heights
BELVOIR secured a second successive promotion – and a passport to the top flight.
Belvoir currently lie third in Division B behind Eastwood and Clifton Village II but league rules state that second teams are not eligible to play in Division A.
Therefore Belvoir went into their home game with Rolls-Royce Leisure requiring 16 points from their remaining two games for promotion: Rolls meanwhile still needed two points for altogether different reasons.
Belvoir turned in a mediocre display with the ball, though it mattered little as Rolls again produced an horrific batting display and were all out for 111.
However, excellent bowling from Graeme Wright (3-37) and Saleem Karim (2-39) reduced the home side to 70-5. Belvoir had their hero, though, in James Needle who batted well for a chanceless 50 to see them home.
It's less clear down at the bottom with two out of Kimberley II, Bottesford and Kirkby Portland set for the drop. Kimberley travelled to champions Eastwood Town and were again put to the sword in another poor bowling display. Stuart Hill top scored with 83 and Neil Gregory a welcome 71 as the home side posted a daunting 260.
A couple of early wickets for Umar Awan and a run-out left the visitors struggling on 42-3 and then 120-8 with 19 overs still remaining. However, a superb rearguard action from Richard Adams (29), Dominic Wheatley (29*) and Luke Tantum (11*) ensured Kimberley clung on for the losing draw at 192-9 and those extra two points could prove priceless.
Kirkby Portland travelled to Bottesford and restricted the home side to 175 with Jason Caunt returning figures of 5-56 while skipper Jim Ward (67) impressed for Bottesford. Kirkby's batting again failed as they were dismissed for 127.
In Division C, Hucknall added the championship to promotion following a 16-point winning draw at home to Hickling. Former Kimberley man Robin Maxwell struck a brilliant 126 in his side's 258. Hickling closed on 183-5 thanks to 64 from Matt Harby and 40 from Ian Welbourn.
Joining Hucknall in B are Hyson Green Carrington Caribs who made light work of West Bridgfordians (122) with Rehal Ahmed (57) and Taufseer Shah (4-11) the stars of their six-wicket success.
There were two huge games at the bottom and in the first, Bramcote made a slow start at home to Fiskerton with just 70 runs coming from the first 26 overs.
This all changed once Pete Gooden crashed 112 and the home side closed on an unassailable 279. The shell-shocked visitors were never in the hunt and ended on 135- 9 with Mark Spibey (5-21) impressing with the ball.
At Plumtree II, Dave Sumner (44 and 3-25) and Rob Smith (40) played a huge part in their three-wicket win over Nottingham (157) who are now relegated. Fiskerton will join them in D providing Plumtree II and Radcliffe-on-Trent II obtain at least eight points each from their remaining games.
Attenborough and Wollaton were promoted from Division D. Attenborough amassed 288 against Willoughby with Ian Baddeley striking 89, Tom Buckel (62*) and Sam Clulow (57). Arjan Singh then ran through the Willoughby side, taking 6-42.
Wollaton II were equally impressive thrashing Wilsons (117) by 92 runs. Sunil Sharma had top scored with 68 and in the reply Suman Shrestha (5-19) bowled the team to promotion.
It was winner-take-all in Division E between the second and third placed teams of Nuthall and Underwood. The latter could only make 140 which didn't prove a problem to the winners. Adrian Marsh crashed 73 as Nuthall eased to a five-wicket win which means Underwood agonisingly miss out on promotion for the second season running.
The remaining action came at the bottom and Long Eaton II looked to have made themselves safe as some tight bowling at the death from Chris Garratt meant that visitors Southwell II fell six runs short of the ten required off the final over. Earlier Tim Taylor had struck 60 for the winners and Tom Foster 57 for the losers.
With that result Farndon would have to win to survive but it would be a stiff task against leaders Gedling Colliery II. Yet win they did with Martyn Hill (103) Mark Everington (47) and Andrew Laughton (3-24) the heroes in a 15-run success.
In Division F it was between Kinoulton and Chilwell for the second promotion spot. Kinoulton held their nerve and collected 19 points with a three-wicket success at Wymeswold (185) as Gary Baker carried his bat for 69.
This meant that Chilwell needed a maximum 20 point haul and it looked on when Matt Murfin produced magnificent figures of 7-7 to dismiss visitors Bottesford for 87. All Chilwell had to do now was to score at no less than four runs an over in the chase. However, wickets fell regularly on a difficult track and Chilwell just got home with one wicket to spare but had used 32 overs in doing so meaning that the honours went to Kinoulton.
There was plenty of drama in Division G, and none more so than in the promotion clash at Oxton where East Bridgford overhauled the 192 target with just three balls remaining thanks to the combined efforts of Andy Wright (69) and Tom Phillipson (5-36).
Kirkby Portland II seized the opportunity and returned to the top with a four- wicket win at home to Epperstone (127). For the winners 13-year-old Connor Fleming shone with 4-28.
At the bottom, Jamie Coupland of East Leake played a priceless knock of 65 to carry his side to victory over Lowdham (139) to ensure their survival. Gotham II completed their own version of the great escape meaning that Snibston Grange's defeat at Beeston Sycamore confirmed their relegation.
After two recent scares Whatton and Aslockton finally secured their promotion from Division H. They did it in some style too as Phil Kirby made 74 and Jamie Lambourne 70 as the winners racked up 250. Then it was the turn of Jamie's brother Ben to take over and his 3-23 meant Bramcote II fell some way short on 135.
In Division J, promotion had been decided but there was still the title to play off. West Bridgfordians II fell to a thrilling one-run defeat against Basford Hall OB (195) but still grabbed the title as Burton Joyce lost at Ruddington who are relegated despite a fine performance.
Ruddington's fate was confirmed thanks to a captain's effort from Adam Baker of Rolls-Royce II whose 93 and 3-7 was the mainstay of their 95-run success at home to Belvoir II (120).
Caunton just needed to beat mid-table Kimberley III to go up from Division K but made a right mess of it, being dismissed for 89 with leg spinner Ben Millington helping himself to four wickets. Kimberley got home with three wickets remaining.
This left the door open for Woodborough playing bottom club Willoughby II. But the form book was turned on its head as 81 from Nick Ayland and four wickets for John Ward meant an unexpected defeat and promotion for Caunton.
It's still all to play for in L as Keyworth II take over at the top following defeat for Caythorpe IV.
Keyworth had Dave Garland (77) to thank as they passed Belotn's 146 with four wickets intact.
