Befriending service will help over-50s get out and about
A NEW befriending service will offer support and companionship to older people in Rushcliffe.
Rushcliffe Community & Voluntary Service (RCVS) has been given more than £100,000 from the Big Lottery to launch the service, called Rushcliffe Befriends.
It will help people over 50 who are lonely, lack confidence and find it difficult to get out and about.
They will be matched with a volunteer, also over 50, who will be fully trained, and will get to know each other and find out about groups and activities they can go along to together.

A project coordinator and information worker will be recruited in the next few weeks. The funding will also help publicise the service and support the recruitment and training of volunteers.
RCVS chief executive Carolyn Perry said: "Loneliness can start a downward spiral, make people depressed and ill and result in a loss of confidence and self-esteem.
"By offering one-to-one support to build confidence, Rushcliffe Befriends will help many older people to take part in community activities and enjoy a better quality of life. "
