Bar's temporary closure after police find poor CCTV keeping
A BAR has temporarily shut after police found it failed to properly archive its CCTV footage.
The 1st Base Bar, in Low Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, was inspected by police last weekend.
Officers found that the venue's CCTV footage did not cover the previous 31 days, as required by licence conditions.
Police were also concerned that security staff details for the previous 12 months were incomplete.
The bar was given a closure notice by police which has forced the owner to temporarily shut the bar until the problem with the CCTV cameras is fixed.
Chief Inspector Paul Winter said: "CCTV is essential in helping us to prevent and detect crimes such as assault and disorder, which can occur around licensed venues, largely because of the influence of alcohol.
"If a crime at or around the venue is reported to us we need to be able to view CCTV footage as part of our investigation.
"Additionally, we need to ensure that it covers a reasonable period because an offence may not be reported immediately.
"We will inspect the premises again and action will be taken if we are not satisfied that the situation has been remedied."
