Badger shootings criticised by MP
A NOTTINGHAM MP has slammed a badger cull as an "unscientific knee-jerk reaction."
Farmers across the county say the animals are responsible for infecting their cattle with TB – a virus which could be passed on to humans.
To address the problem Conservative MPs have made a promise that badgers will be allowed to be shot.
But Nottingham North MP Graham Allen has criticised the decision.
"The ancient place of Broxtowe, part of which is in my constituency, is Anglo-Saxon for "place of the badgers" yet now there are no badgers to be found there," he said. "That is precisely what will happen to the rest of the badger population if we are not careful.
"That's why I condemn a knee-jerk reaction based on no scientific fact whatsoever which experts say could actually make matters worse."

“I agree with you Moorhen12................... Getting back to the article & the proposed "badger cull", Graham Allen states that this is "based on no scientific fact whatsoever"....If this is correct, then the cull shouldnt take place should it?”

“Angling - catching fish and then putting them back or catching fosh to eat.
Totally different from hunting a fox causing distress until it is exhausted and then getting ripped apart by dogs, just for for the enertainment value.”

“The article is about Badgers (not fish), & I just expressed a view about a group of people I consider to be quite cruel to animals in general.. & NO, I DONT have my "own class agenda".. I am against anyone who is cruel to or "enjoys causing pain" to any animal of any sort, including fish.. Whether they,re Upper or "Working Class" is irrelevant to me, I dislike them all..
Instead of provoking an argument with me, you would do better to direct your anger at the callous, heartless people(of all classes) who mistreat animals..”

“You post about the "upper ones" enjoying hurting animals and birds. Does catching coarse fish on the Trent hurt the fish ? Coarse fishing is, largely, a working class leisure activity. Is hooking fish, pulling them out of the water and then putting them back better than shooting a bird that has been bred for the sole purpose of the shoot ? Don't you just have your own class agenda which says that the "upper class" enjoy causing pain yet the "working class" don't ?”

“I dont know whether they "enjoy angling" or not.. I just know that a lot of them enjoy hurting animals/birds for a leisurely activity.. & if its not so common nowadays, its only because of public opinion.. A lot of them would still like to do it, its in their nature to be callous or cruel to animals..Only my opinion of course..”
