A WOMAN says she was injured in her home by an eight-foot long piece of plaster which fell on her.

Alison Sagar had improvements carried out at her council home in Fulwood Crescent, Aspley, as part of the Secure Warm Modern programme.

Mother-of-one Alison, who has limited movement due to a back condition, said she had to go to hospital on January 23 after a piece of decorative plaster coving, about eight feet long, fell on her.

The 42-year-old said she has still not regained full movement in her right arm following the accident, and is waiting for test results from her GP to know the full extent of the damage.

"I haven't really been able to use my arm since the coving fell on me," she said. "It's horrible. I just wanted to cry every day. I didn't want to leave my bedroom because it was the only nice room in the house.

"I'm virtually housebound, so I want a nice house. I don't want to be stuck in a house full of holes with plaster falling off the walls."

Work to Alison's kitchen and bathroom started in June and was completed in October by FHM, one of three contractors used by Nottingham City Homes.

Alison said she reported leaks from piping in the bathroom to FHM in October and again in December.

On their last visit on December 29, Alison said the contractors left holes in the walls and bathroom floor. She said that, after the coving fell on her in January, she contacted FHM again, but they failed to come out to complete the work.

The Post contacted Nottingham City Homes last week and the repairs have now been carried out by FHM.

A spokesman for Nottingham City Homes said: "We are very sorry to hear about the problems Alison has experienced following the improvements to her home.

"As soon as the Post told us, we made sure the problems were put right the next day.

"The Secure Warm Modern programme is improving more than 20,000 council homes across Nottingham – the biggest investment programme in city homes in a generation.

"Alison's home had a new bathroom installed in October.

"She reported a leak to our contractors on December 29. While the leak was repaired, the work to tidy the job up didn't take place because of a failure in communication.

"We are now talking to the contractor to establish why this has occurred, so we can learn from it for the future."

    “Smiffy1

    No mellowing there then!

The big difference between you and most others on these sites is that they are prepared to admit that they might be wrong.

You tend to go in all guns blazing and misread both the words and the intent of others. Preferring to make their comments fuel for your own very extensive prejudice.

I take issue now with those who rank you as stupid . . . they need not waste their time and effort . . . you are doing an brilliant job of proving that yourself!”

“Ah, dee dums. You had my post removed - aren't you a clever thing. I'm gutted. i didn't call you arrogant because I thought that word might be a little of a challenge for you. I callled you a cretin because you are one. Just to reiterate there was no mention of compensation in the story. She probably went to the post because generally that ensures that NCH get off there ****s.

Starving - welcome back. You might want to answer some of the very specific points which I put to you last week. In terms of "nastiness" I think you may well be leading on that one by a mile. I may address the individual with some robust words where as you spray whole swathes of society with your bigoted stereotyping.”

    “Oh rats . . .

I thought my absence from the sites would allow Smiffy to mellow . . .

But I find him still spitting fire and spraying insults like some new to the human language.

His latest tirade is worthy of an Oscar.

Just what experience in early life has caused him to be so bitter?

Perhaps there was an incident in his Past that he could have reaped oodles of cash from the Council for but it was before "Compo" was a National Sport and he missed out!

Come on Smiffy don't you know when because of your nastiness, posters are just trying to wind you up and perhaps get you to look at yourself in a mirror!”

“Today I got up and went out for a ride on my push bike, whilst out nothing out of the ordinary occurred although on friday afternoon I did suffer a puncture! Now today whilst sitting at home i did discover a stain on the living room ceiling.....upon further investigation it does seem that a central heating pipe is leaking from one of my childs bedrooms!! ......I am now beside myself about what I should do as my son who sleeps in this room cant swim and if the ceiling does not collapse with the weight of water in the next 10 years i fear he might drown!! Now im not a council resident but surely there is someone i can blame for this or even maybe I could take my mortgage company to court and sue for damages as this is making our life hell!!!!!......I think not!!! i hope my bus has to break sharply in the morning on the way to work cos maybe i could claim there or even my mcdonalds apple pie burns my lips cos ronald would not know what had hit him one my lawyer is on the case........infact the office was a bit cold last week so i dont think i should even attempt to go in............”

“The contractors, especially FHM, are nothing shy of cowboys! That is a simple truth and I personally don't understand why the council go for "the cheapest" as it cost's them more in the long run to correct, just like this story. Not just that but a majority of you commenting on this subject just don't have a clue what you're talking about!
Right I'm going to start with Gayleh69. You really need to check up on your facts! I don't comment here very often but I do read comments and it's not very often I agree with FormallyW! But on this they are spot on. It is up to the landlord to correct any decorating issues caused by works done. I know this as my property has gone through extensive work over the last few years under this programme (and yes I know we're lucky) but EVERY time work has been done, NCH have sent a decorator to finish the job. In fact once (we had dangerous banisters replaced) they caused so much damage to our decorating that they couldn't fix, that NHC actually sent us B&Q vouchers to buy the stufff we wanted then sent the decorator in to do the work! So get your facts straight.
Also I know this woman states coving fell on her (I'm not so sure she got that right) but at the end of the day what no-one seems to have remembered it that this was caused by a leak. Now I'm sorry, I'm no expert but plaster isn't overly light. Not just that but I'm pretty sure that water soaks into plaster which would make it very heavy indeed so you all need to get a grip! (and yes the council DO use coving, we have it, you can come and check if you wish!) Oh and not just that but at what point has compensation been mentioned in the article you judgemental bunch of morons?”
