No one was injured.
The offender was then seen to get into a dark-coloured vehicle, driven by a second suspect. The car was later recovered after being abandoned in Cranthorne Drive.
The two suspects are believed to have taken the cash box through an alleyway and into Wheatley Drive, where it was opened and discarded.
Opening the cash box will have caused a dark purple dye to activate, covering the cash, the offenders and their clothing.
Despite the arrest, detectives have renewed their appeal for information about the robbery.
CCTV images of one of the suspects show him wearing a distinctive top with light-coloured chevrons on the front.
