The scene of the shooting in St Ann's yesterday.
A Notts Police spokesman said: "Police are investigating a report that a firearm was discharged in the Wells Road area of St Ann's."
Yesterday afternoon, forensics officers were at the scene carrying out a fingertip search of the area.
One resident told the Post: "There was a shooting.
"A car drove past and shot at the shop. That is what the shopkeeper told me."
Notts Police said it was too early to say whether the shot had been fired from a car or how many shots had been fired.
Cars driving up and down Wells Road were being diverted by uniformed officers at the scene.
The area where the shot was fired is close to St Ann's Well Junior School and a number of homes.
The entrance to St Augustine's Court Care Centre residential and nursing home was just outside the police cordon.
One worker at the centre said: "No one heard or saw anything. We just saw the police coming."
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information can contact Notts Police on 0300 300 99 99.

“For the state of accuracy in this article, St Ann's Well Junior school is no longer a school- It was closed over a year ago,and the site is being used for other purposes, including a cafe and Gym. There is a 20 mph speed limit in this stretch of the Wells Road, which beggars belief with no schoolchildren within a mile of the Site.!”
