MEMBERS of the public suffering from anti-social behaviour in Nottingham can now call on a victim and witness champion.

Jane Overton, branch manager of Victim Support Nottingham City, will support people in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, aided by a caseworker.

She will also act as the voice for victims and witnesses of anti-social behaviour and will challenge any agencies that do not deliver an adequate level of service.

Jane, who works from Oxclose Lane police station, in Arnold, said: "Standing up to anti-social behaviour can take real courage.

"It's not easy having to go to court and give evidence against someone you may have to return home and live next door to.

"The people of Nottingham need to know that they're not alone and that independent support is available.

"I want people to reclaim their lives and I urge anyone who is a victim of anti-social behaviour to come forward."

Richard Antcliff, chief anti-social behaviour officer for community protection, said: "This appointment is a significant and important role."

“I have also been a victim of ASB and if i had had the help of someone like jane then the outcome would have been much different. People like this help change peoples lives and i just hope that jane and similar people are paid accordingly and are appreciated for the fantastic job they do ..”

“Lets hope the people of Nottingham can feel safe now that Jane and her team are supporting the victims of anti-social behaviour and crime. I think every town and city should have someone like Jane!”

“This can only be a positive step forward. I am a victim of anti social behaviour and have been let down by the police and local council. I feel that they do not fully understand the impact it has on people's lives daily. Let us not forget Fiona Pilkington and how she was badly let down by the authorities. There are lessons to be learned!!!!!!”
